Instead of creating objects that are 2-D like graphics, 3-D modeling programs like Solidworks, Maya, and others you can create 3D models that can be spun around to reveal all the details and then be printed and turned into real life products.Your imagination is the limit. You can make models to produce prototypes, make molds to create products, or render the models to a picture. 3-D modeling software ranges considerably, there are free open source programs to very expensive high-end programs like Solidworks.

Solidworks Overview
Solidworks 3-D deign software is intuitive and relatively easy to learn and is packed with many tools to help the designer design efficiently. Solidworks is more than a simple CAD program but rather a feature-based parametric, solid modeling design program. Feature-base because changing the features of the model changes the model.Parametric because changing the shape will also change the model, therefor the dimensions drive the geometry and not the other way around. This powerful software is used almost exclusively in manufacturing products. This software is so fun to use I have also design 3-D graphics with this software and have used them to make my own products that I sell on Zazzle.com and other sites. While this price tag for this software is mind blowing, I think it is the most well thought out, designer friendly, and engineered for efficient use. If you can afford it I think it is work every dollar.
3-D Printing
After a model has been created in 3-D modeling software like Solidworks you are ready to have it manufactured. One of the easiest ways is to have it printed in 3-D. 3-D printing is a form of additive manufacturing technology where a three dimensional object is created by laying down successive layers of material. 3-D printers are generally faster, more affordable and easier to use than other additive manufacturing technologies. 3-D printers offer product developers the ability to print parts and assemblies made of several materials with different mechanical and physical properties in a single build process.
