Possibly the most popular fruit in the world
Of all the fruits in history, the apple was probably the most depended upon in Western culture for desserts, jellies, salads, and sauce. Today we welcome new ideas as to how apples may be used because we never tire of this fruit so rich in good nutrition and long growing seasons.
The apple tree is perhaps the oldest tree to be cultivated, with its history stretching thousands of years into Turkey and Asia. Today the United States is the second largest producer of apples in the world, behind China.

Frosted Apples
Frosted apples are a variation of the usual baked apple. Choose six large red apples, core and blanch them in boiling water so the skins may be removed easily. Peel and dip each apple in melted butter, roll in sugar, then roll in grated coconut.Fill the centers with chopped dates or nuts (or both). Bake until tender in a 325 degree oven or until sugar sparkles- usually about 15-20 minutes.

Apple Pie
What is more American than apple pie? According to Alton Brown, the early Americans would not have added cinnamon, cloves, or other spiced to their apple pies. They probably didn't include sugar either, as it was very expensive and hard to find. Here is a link to Alton's Super Apple Pie.

Apple accessories for your kitchen
If you will be working with a lot of apples it is always nice to have a few special tools. At the very least you should have an apple corer to speed things up for pies and sauces. If you want to process even faster, try a peeler/slicer/corer tool. Kids love to help out cranking the handle and watching the peels come off! The simple apple slicer works great for pies and snacks.

- I think we would have to say Crock-pot Apple Sauce. I make mine extra chunky with some lemon juice and just a hint of brown sugar. The flavor of the apples just pop!
