I remember I was 16 and being homeless. I was lucky to eventually get my own flat, a job, but my goodness it was hard. I had left home under very strained circumstances, and I was determined to succeed. But sometimes just the daily struggle to get by was awful, I was given an Aretha Franklin Album, and on this was a song called "Deeper Love" and I did indeed play this every morning when I felt a little down, or alone, or the world was against me. I bet my neighbors hated me.
I was ready to go, a great motivational song.

I suppose looking at the Lyrics as I was writing them it made me reflect on why I loved and still love this song, now on my iPod, I was 16 out on my own, no family support network, but I did have a strong will to survive, surviving growing up in a house where my father was an Alcoholic, I think survival instinct was inbuilt to me, how to stay away from danger, reading the signs that people gave out, but really just wanting to be loved.
Now I look at it that way, the song at the time held something different, It motivated me, it made me feel good, but now I see it as a sad time.

I am sure you have all heard the story of Susan Boyle from a little village in Scotland called Blackburn. some who cruelly referred to her as "the hairy angel" , who walked onto that stage, shoogled her hips and declared her childlike crush on Piers Morgan, should be made to eat those words.
Susan first appeared at the Glasgow auditions of Britians got talent, Simon Cowell rolled his eyes as the fluffy haired spinster walked on stage! Who is he to judge anyone, sometimes I do find the show cruel that way. When Susan announced she wanted to be as big a name as Elaine Paige, Simon nearly choked.
Here is a woman that goes against everything our society expected of a "star" and here she was standing in front of a crowd of a few thousand.
You know the words she sings convey her true life experience.

This lady had everybody in the palm of her hands, the laughing at her replaced with cheering and a standing ovation. although finishing second place to Dance troop diversity, Susan Boyle had huge media and Internet interest, were you one of the several million to watch her Glasgow Audition on You tube?

This song was precious to my husband and I , it was released when we had just met, both in a very dark time of our lives, my husband recovering from Cancer, I was wary of becoming involved with anyone after escaping an Abusive relationship
It was a song that joined us together with its words, "If I just lay here will you lay with me" and sometimes just laying there saying nothing but knowing someone is there is enough.
