Who is Sonic The Hedgehog

• He's a classic, a video game icon that can be recognized instantly. His profile is almost as distinctive as Mickey's silhouette.


• He's fast enough to break the sound barrier.


• He's had several TV shows.


• He's a nice royal blue color. I always did like blue.

Personality: Impatient, loyal, flippant, brave, show-off, protective.

Abilities: Speed (fastest thing alive); spin attack (curls up into a ball and spins around destructively); becomes faster, golden, and invincible after collecting all the Chaos Emeralds (Super Sonic).

Weaknesses: Sinks like a rock in water.

Sonic himself has evolved quite a bit over the years. In the early days he had a very rounded, almost cuddly look. His spines were short and shaped a lot like a shark's dorsal fin. He somehow managed to be both cute and cool.

Then in 1998, Sonic's look changed dramatically. He became taller and more angular. His feet got huge and his eyes turned green. His smirk became more of a sneer.

Sega was probably trying to make Sonic seem more mature and edgy, maybe make him more appealing to teenagers and young adults, but I think that was a mistake. Sonic lost a lot of his appeal when he got an "updated" look. This is not the Sonic I grew to love.

• You fondly remember playing video games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles. They just don't make games like that anymore.


• Sonic SatAM was the best Sonic cartoon ever.


• You recoiled when you first saw Sonic's "new look."


• The new Sonic games don't measure up. 3D Sonic just doesn't have the SPEED, man.
