Sonic the Hedgehog - He's the Fastest Thing Alive!

Sonic the Hedgehog first debuted in his own Sega Genesis video game in 1991, and it wasn't long before the speedy blue hedgehog was starring in his own TV shows. One Sonic show, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, was a slapstick kiddie cartoon that most Sonic fans prefer not to think about. The other one, Sonic the Hedgehog, was a darker, more serious animated series. Since it aired on Saturday mornings, fans started calling it Sonic SatAM.

Here's the story behind the series: Dr. Robotnik took over the planet Mobius years some ten years ago and turned many of the Mobians into mindless robots. The beautiful city of Mobotropolis became Robotnik's dark, polluted base of operations called Robotropolis. The Mobians who weren't roboticized went into hiding.

Sonic the Hedgehog and Princess Sally are leaders of a small group of low-tech Freedom Fighters who are determined to overthrown Robotnik. The show focuses on the Freedom Fighters' missions to try and bring down Robotnik.

Sonic SatAM Lyrics

Lyrics for the Sonic SatAM Cartoon

Blue streak speeds by
Sonic the Hedgehog
Too fast for the naked eye
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic, he can really move
Sonic, he's got an attitude
Sonic, he's the fastest thing alive

Look out when he storms through,
Sonic the Hedgehog
Don't doubt what he can do
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic, he can really move
Sonic, he's got an attitude
Sonic, he's the fastest thing alive
He's the fastest thing alive
He's the fastest thing alive

Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic, the hero and star of the show. His super speed is always an asset on missions, but his flippancy and "I'm-Way-Past-Cool" attitude can occasionally get the better of him.

The love of his life is a good chili dog--well, all right, he likes Princess Sally too.

Princess Sally

Princess Sally Alicia Acorn is the leader of the Freedom Fighters. She's level-headed, intelligent, and athletic. Sonic's attitude occasionally test her patience, but everyone knows she's crazy about him.

Her father was the king of Mobotropolis. She is the rightful heir to the throne, assuming the Freedom Fighters can ever free Mobius from Robotnik.

Tails

Tails has a special ability: By twirling his two tails together, he can fly. He would like to go on missions with the others, but everyone thinks he's still too young. He practically worships Sonic, who he looks up to as a brother.

Tails' real name is Miles Prower, but he hates it.

Antoine

Poor Antoine isn't very popular. It might have something to do with the French coyote's snooty attitude and cowardly nature. He has heroic dreams, though, and adores Princess Sally... even though she's besotted with that hedgehog guy.

Antoine takes cooking VERY seriously. The best way to torture him is to force him to watch you make escargot with margarine instead of butter.

Antoine and the Infamous Margarine Scene

Antoine does something foolish and ends up getting captured by Snively, Robotnik's toady little nephew. Snively comes up with a rather... unique way to torture Antoine.

Bunnie Rabbot

Bunnie is from the South, which explains her drawl. She's sweet and optimistic Southern belle. But she's got spunk, a stubborn streak, and a bit of a temper, too.

Bunnie was almost roboticized. Fortunately the Freedom Fighters pulled her out of the machine before the process was complete. She was lucky to get away with only her legs and left arm roboticized.

Bunnie's robotic limbs are a mixed blessing. She's much stronger than the average Mobian, and she can extend her robotic limbs like a telescope.

Rotor

Rotor is a walrus who is absolutely fascinated by technology. His mechanical skills are invaluable to the Freedom Fighters; he's often able to reverse-engineer Robotnik's gadgetry and make weapons for the Freedom Fighters. He also helps keep Bunnie's robotic limbs in good repair.

Rotor doesn't usually go on the missions to Robotropolis. He's content to stay in the background, piddling in his workshop.

Dr. Ivo Robotnik

So Dr. Robotnik may not exactly be a popular guy, but where would the good guys be without a good villain? This is the role Robotnik plays, and he does a respectable job.

Dr. Robotnik (affectionately known as "Robuttnik" by a certain impudent blue hedgehog) has pretty much taken over the planet Mobius by roboticizing much of its inhabitants. Apparently his idea of a perfect world is being surrounded by robots, machines, and pollution. Unfortunately those dratted Freedom Fighters keep meddling with his plans.

Snively

He's Robotnik's cringing little nephew who dutifully obeys orders... even though he often grimaces and mutters about it when Robotnik isn't listening.

Snively tries to be the voice of reason when Robotnik lets his arrogance cloud his judgment. Snively is almost a sympathetic character since he has to endure Robotnik's bullying; however, he despises the Freedom Fighters about as much as Robotnik does.
