New Battery Charger for My Sony Cybershot

I recently found myself in need of a new battery charger for my Sony Cybershot digital camera. Well, more precisely, I found myself in need of a new NP-BG1 battery, and in want of a new battery charger.

My old charger was a generic replacement for the OEM charger that had not been exactly what I had wanted, so I decided to replace it. There were two specific problems with that I was hoping to avoid with a new one, and I'll tell you about those, too. FYI - I have NOT experienced either of those two problems with this new one. Happy day!

I went to Amazon, searched for "Sony Cybershot Battery Charger," and found a bunch. You know what? I got lucky!

Here's the story of which one I chose, why, and how satisfied I am.

I Got a Sony Cybershot Charger, and More - for Less!

I've only had this product a short while, but at this point, I must say that it is far better than a generic one I had purchased for nearly FOUR times the price about a year ago.

This one worked like a charm right out of the box. It's nice to be done wrestling the battery out of the adapter and continually checking the connection. Charging was quick, too. Although the side of the box indicated a 2 hour charge time, it took just under an hour!

I should also mention that shipping time was quicker than expected - the package arrived within five days of placing the order.

All in all, I'm thinking this was a pretty good deal at 1/4 the price of the charger only that I purchased locally.

Why I Wanted a New Charger

I had left the charger that came with the camera on a ship and was unable to retrieve it.

About a year ago, I bought a generic battery charger from a local electronics store. It has various adapters to slide into the base, depending on the type of battery you need to charge. However, there are two problems with it.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT MY OLD ONE:
1) It is very difficult to get the NP-Bg1 battery back out of its adapter after charging.
2) Over time, the charger developed a habit of working loose from the outlet just enough that it would stop charging, so I would have to keep checking it and resecuring the connection.

SPECIAL NOTE: The charger i bought locally cost roughly FOUR TIMES what the new one I just purchased on Amazon cost. AND this was for the charger alone ... no battery or car charger included.

Based on the above, I chose one with a total price of $10.82, including the shipping charge, and good reviews. It comes with a battery charger, attachment for charging in the car, and two batteries.

I have now had a chance to use the car charger, and it works just fine and dandy!

This module only appears with actual data when viewed on a live lens. The favorite and lensroll options will appear on a live lens if the viewer is a member of Squidoo and logged in.

    I have a wall charger and like it but now I think a car charger would be nice to have too.
