Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 Superzoom : The World's Most Versatile Digital Camera
Ranked #9,016 in Computers & Electronics, #189,755 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund
Before the Sony DSC-H50
Photgraphy was never in my blood to start with. I laughed at people who strut around pointing nerdy black things at anything that moves or not move. I never saw the reason or the justification of spending thousands of bucks (pesos in my case) to capture an image of someone I don't even know.
But then sometime in my life, I met a very special someone who was infected with the photography bug. She told me the value of capturing a sliver of time by trapping it in film. (No digital camera yet at that time). She gave me a black and white portrait of herself she developed on the university darkroom specially for me.
She took pictures around the campus with a borrowed camera. We were students then. She was my best friend and I made a promise to myself to give her a dslr camera no matter how long it takes. I never did get that chance. She left me a few years ago. But the photography bug burned inside me.
This is one of her legacies to me.

The Sony DSC-H50 Cybershot Superzoom
...probably the best camera in the world
Really I have no idea. Some friends have told me that a camera can only be a camera if it is a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex). Of course I disagree. I would love to have my own DSLR. But let me tell you a few points why I "hate" DSLR cameras.
For one, they are too heavy. If you're like me who is always cash strapped, running around with a thousand dollar camera hanging on my neck wishing If-something-is-going-to-break-let-it-be-my-neck-not-the-camera would be quite uncomfortable. Or maybe wandering looking at everybody with that Touch-my-camera-buddy-and-I'll-break-your-head.
I also hate the need for different types of lenses for different pictures. Sure a DSLR can capture great images but so can a super zoom like the Sony Cybershot DSC-H50. Imagine lugging a camera bag with three types of lenses not to mention your lunch. I want to be a photographer not a soldier.
Now a superzoom like the Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 is another story. It fits snugly in my Crumpler 4 Million dollar home along with my lunch. It is almost weightless and very easy to run around with. Although still expensive for me... this time I can afford to break it before my neck. The most important thing is that it covers a large assortment of lenses from 31-465mm. with a DSLR, this range would mean several pound of dfferent lens types. It has a remote control. Beleive it or not it also has those night vision things when everytheing looks greenish.

I don't know much about camera, but the ones I've owned were simple, yet take professional pictures. Not too highly priced and easy to use. Based on what you've highlighted, I would choose the Sony DSC-H50.

Capturing fast moving objects with a Sony DSC-H50
Photography
...the way I see it
I am never going to be a professional photographer. All I want is to take pictures. Some would say it is a complete waste of time. But how can that be when in each shot, in each picture... I preserve time the way it is meant to be. It is a timeless art.
Looking through the pictures I have taken, I learned more about myself. Sometimes I wonder why I took this shot. What did I find interesting in this scene? Was it the color? Was it my mood? Was the choice to shoot at that moment governed by my heart... or perhaps my mind? This is how I see the world.
Now in my spare time I walk around with my trusty Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 snapping pieces of Gods art. I thank her, my best friend, for infecting me with the photography bug. Where ever you are I hope you still think good of me. I only wish she were here with me shooting together at the world. But sometimes you can't have everything and sometimes some things are never meant to be.
The Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 was meant for me. :-)

Time to get your own.
...it is never to late
I highly recommend the Sony Cybershot DSC-H50. I know there are other superzooms out there. I've had the opportunity to own some of them (Olympus, Panasonic, Canon)... but believe me none of them compares to the versatility of the Sony H50. It is better than entry and even mid DSLR cameras.

- Nice lens and great pictures! I'm fortunate to have a DSLR and love it. However, for quite some time I worked with whatever I could get my hands on. With what you're capturing it shows that this camera is very adapt and will work well for most anything. I see only 1 thing - spelling miss - The Sony DSC-H50 Cybershot Superzoom section, 4 pgrph last sentence - everytheing. Thank you for sharing your photos and story!!

- Your intro is wonderful... it's honest and real. You have done a great job here (even though I own a DSLR). But it is an inviting lens (no pun intended)... keep it up!
