Which Sony LCD HDTV Is For You?

Is it the 52-inches or the 40-inches or perhaps the 32-inches... Find the answers here

Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-32XBR9 32-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

If you're looking for a 32-inch HDTV you should really consider this one. Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-32XBR9 is really a high quality 1080p HDTV

Sony Bravia L-Series KDL-32L4000 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Small is beautiful. This is true for Sony Bravia KDL-32L4000 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Picture quality is very good. The blacks are black, not washed out as on, say, a Westinghouse lvm37-w3. Sound from the built-in speakers is good, but nothing to compare with external amplified speakers. The built-in ATSC tuner does a great job.

Setting up the channel list was easy and took only a couple of minutes, but Sony should add an obvious way to skip analog channels during setup. If you don't have cable and didn't want to include any analog channels in the channel list the setup is awkward. Since they were automatically identified, you will need to manually hide them once channel setup was complete.

Of course, it will be easy to skip analog over-the-air channels after February 2009 :)

Pros:
* Very good picture quality
* Good ATSC tuner
* Plays well with computers

Cons:
* No obvious way to skip analog over-the-air channels during channel setup

Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-32XBR6 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

I love the sharp HD picture and the sound and the on-screen interface of the set. The picture is so clear I noticed the newscaster on my local news needs to cut down on the pancake makeup. It looked like he applied it with a trowel. My only complaint -- and it's minor -- would probably be that the 32 inch screen seems a tad too small when you're viewing a non-HD broadcast reduced to the square picture format. (We got the 32 inch model because we needed it to fit into an existing entertainment cabinet.)

Someone else complained online that the set smelled like hot plastic when they first used it. Mine didn't and I'm someone who notices things like that. As for the picture quality, the pre-set picture options are well-calibrated and personal adjustments are easy to fine tune. The remote is a bit large but not a big deal. The colors are true and vibrant. The blacks are pitch black, including the "pillars" that come up on the left and right side of the picture when you are watching a non-HD picture (I made that my preference because I don't like to stretch or crop a non-HD picture to fit the wider screen to avoid letterboxing). Both HD roof antenna picture and HD DirecTV look great on it. Free delivery of the TV took about a week and the shipment arrived in pristine condition. The price was about $100 cheaper than I could find in stores around Detroit. In all, I'd recommend the set and the buyer.

Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-40V3000 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

I had my PS3 long before I purchased a HDTV because I wasn't sure which to one to buy.I thought about Sony but the price is always a bit more that the rest. It was only after I had placed the order that I went to a store and saw about four other well known brands along with the Sony KDL-40V3000 HDTV all showing the same DVD and all using the same type of cables.It was then that I knew that I had made the right choice.

I now have to watch over all of my Blu-Ray disk because there are certain things that just couldn't see on my older TV(which is a Sony Trinitron that I had for about 12 years and still works). As for the the quality when playing PS3 games this TV trully shines it seems like it was built for gaming and you will notice this when you hit the home key remote and the XMB shows up on the screen. Change the picture settings to Games/Text and be blown away by the quality. The local TV broadcast are just as good as the previous TV.

Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-46XBR4 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

I've had this TV for almost a month now and all I can say is....(in my best Keanu Reeves voice) WHOA!!! The KDL-46XBR4 is simply amazing. Blu Ray movies look absolutely stunning on this set and the 120Hz make you feel like you are on the set during filming. It's that clear. I wonder how I've survived this long without HD. The TV automatically sets itself to whatever source you are watching. For example, using a standard dvd player will set the TV to NTSC setting. HD channels are set to 1081i and the PS3 is set to display at full 1080P. The upconversions look great on the tv as well. I haven't had any issues with hearing the fan as many have complained about (knock on wood!!). All in all, this is a fantastic set and worth every penny..

Sony Bravia W-Series KDL-52W3000 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

I've owned Sony KDL-52W3000 LCD HDTV for a month, no problems with set up. Excellent picture quailty with standard broadcast TV. I don't have HD signal from my satelite company.

The TV has a sound leveling feature so your not supposed to be blasted out of your chair by commercials. Works okay if you connect the sound cable direct from satelite to TV, but I installed a Sony Home Theatre system, called Sony support for help and they had me run a cable from the satelite to the Home Theatre box, this by passes the sound leveling feature on the TV, so I get blasted by commercials. That is the only complaint I have with the set up.

The DVD Home Theatre System is HDX501W.I bought it at Sams's Club for $475.00. It comes with Wifi rear speakers and an iPod dock. It has plenty of volume, 1000 watts. The rear speakers are "wireless", but not totally wireless. The two rear speakers are connected by wires to a wifi receving device which has to be plugged in to a wall outlet. This box and two rear speakers are set in the back of the room. The wires run from this wifi receiver box to the two rear speaker. The wifi signal is sent from the Home Theatre box near the TV, to the back speaker's receiver without wires. That's the part that Sony calls 'wireless." It works fine, just don't expect to be totally without wires.

Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-52XBR5 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

This TV is the best! The clarity on local broadcasts with an antenna is excellent. The 120 hz 1080p KDL-52XBR5 TV works especially well with the new BDP-S500 Blu-Ray Player. The two products were really made for each other. It also works very well with my Sony Laptop that has Blu-Ray capability and an HDMI connection. This TV has an optical-out audio connection that makes it possible to send the Dolby Digital broadcast signal to my older, but still excellent Rotel surround-sound receiver. American Idol and PBS broadcast programs sound great!

The TV's digital tuner works very well with the Antenna on my roof that I have used for over a decade. After researching this issue, I learned that I can actually get the best signal free without even changing my antenna! It turns out that the digital broadcast towers are located in the same area of town as the analog ones, so I did not need to reorient the antenna (see www.antennaweb.org for details about this issue). My old antenna continues to supply the old analog TVs in the house (at least until next year when they will need converter digital to analog tuners) as well as the new XBR with built-in digital tuner. Set-up was easy. I simply needed to choose the antenna option instead of cable on the TV menu. The automatic channel search discovered several digital stations in my area that were new to me.

I looked at nearly 100 TV stands and chose the Icon 9429 Stand (www.bdiusa.com) that was a perfect choice for this TV. The stand has architectural features that match the TV well and it allowed me to place my Center speaker and receiver under the TV.

I had carefully researched this TV and I would definitely choose it again. It seems that the features/price/value ratios for HD TVs have hit a sweet spot and this was a good time to buy my first high-definition TV after waiting for the price to come down and the technology to fully mature. The 120 hz rate was a selling point in addition to the picture clarity of the Sony XBR series. This TV is really able to display all kinds of signals with a superb picture quality and very clean action shots. It is bright enough to be placed in front of a large, south-facing tinted picture window with a lot of light in the room. In fact, I usually turn the picture setting down from the vivid to the standard picture mode. The LCD gives good clarity from all the viewing angles in the room.
