The Rise of PlayStation
Sony's original PlayStation video game console was released in North America in 1995. Since then the PlayStation name has been a favorite among all kinds of game fans. Within two years of it's release, the PlayStation console had sold over 20 million copies world wide.In 1999, Sony became the first makers of console games to "legitimize consumers' investment in...software libraries", when they announced the production of the PlayStation 2 - a console that would play not only PS2 games, but original PlayStation games as well. It also raised the bar on consoles by offering a built in CD and DVD player. Sony's competition with PC's would be complete in the summer of 2002, with the release of the Network Adaptor - allowing players to compete and play games such as Madden NFL 2003 online.
In 2005, the number of PS2 units sold worldwide reached over 100 million. That same year, Sony launched the handheld system PSP, which would play not only games but UMD movies as well. The first film titles released in the Universal Media Disc format where Hellboy, Resident Evil 2 and Once Upon A Time in Mexico.
At this time, competition between Sony and Microsoft was fierce, and fans anticipated the release of the latest consoles: PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Staying true to their high standards, Sony continued to offer backwards compatibility for their games. The PS3, launched in the fall of 2006, is the first system to bring together CD, DVD, and Blu-ray, as well as games from all three PlayStation consoles. They also continued to sell and market the persistently popular PS2 system. In 2008, it became the first video game console in history to surpass 50 million units sold in North America.

God of War
The mythological story of the Spartan warrior, Kratos, was an instant hit with action fans in 2006. With a unique fighting style, interesting weapons and plenty of gore, God of War is a must-have series for collectors. The original God of War game follows the story of Kratos, who seeks to destroy the god Ares for Athena, and for his own revenge as well. In order to complete his task, Kratos must fight hordes of monsters, solve puzzles, and face his own dark past before obtaining Pandora's Box.
God of War II picks up some time after the first story ends, with Kratos abusing his newly earned powers. Foolishly ignoring the warnings of Athena, Kratos continues to lead the Spartans to war, and is punished severely by the gods. Once again on a path of vengeance, Kratos must rally the Titans and consult with the Fates to defeat his enemies.
Both games are known for the incredibly interactive fighting mode, which includes the "Context Sensitive" attacks that are used on both regular enemies and bosses. Rather than fight major antagonists only to see them killed in a cut-scene, players are in control of the action from start to finish.

Prince of Persia
The Prince of Persia series spans many different video game platforms, beginning with the original game developed for the Apple II. The story follows an unnamed warrior who travels to Ancient Persia and falls in love with the Princess. In order to be with her, the 'Prince' must defeat the Sultan's evil and jealous vizier, Jaffar.
Since it's release in 1989, the original Prince of Persia has been adapted for many different systems, including Atari, PC, Super Nintendo, and Game Boy. It is also available as mobile game and for online play with XBox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.
The second game in the series, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, takes place in Azad, where King Shahraman and the Prince arrive with the spoils of war: three magical artifacts and the Indian Princess Farah. Betrayed by the vizier once again, the Prince must repair the Hourglass of Time and restore order to the kingdom.
The game was developed by Ubisoft for PC, PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and XBox. There is also a mobile game version and a Game Boy Advance version of Sands of Time.
The next installment, Warrior Within picks up the story seven years later. The Prince must quest to the Island of Time to prevent the Sands of Time from being created, in order to change history and destroy his newest enemy, Dahaka. The game features a darker, more aggressive protagonist, and new combat system.
The final game in the Sands of Time Trilogy follows the Prince and his lover Kaileena back to Babylon, where the events of Warrior Within have come back to haunt them. The Prince's former foe, the Vizier, has returned, and still seeks to gain power using the Dagger of Time.
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones incorporates many of the popular features of the series with new stealth and acrobatic abilities. Players must guide the Prince through the palace by climbing walls, sliding down chutes and jumping from platform to platform. These features, combined with puzzle solving and plenty of action, The Two Thrones ties up the series on a high note.
The game was also revised for PSP and Nintendo Wii as Prince of Persia: Rival Swords.
