My personal review of the Sony waterproof camera DSC TX10
Ranked #4,324 in Computers & Electronics, #78,210 overall
Taking my Sony DSC TX-10 waterproof digital camera for its first spin.
Now, John and I spend as much time as possible on the Chesapeake Bay, either on his beautiful sailboat, Namaste, or tooling around on our jet ski so a waterproof camera was in my future for sure. I did a lot of exploring reviews of digital cameras before I selected the Sony DSC TX-10 so this lens has been way personalized!
I've been a fan of the Sony DCS mini digital cameras for ages, having bought my very first one about 10 years ago. I remember shelling out $500 for this mini camera which fit into my pocket (which had a lot more room after spending $500....). I was amazed at how many strangers approached me and asked about this teeny camera while I was trying to capture just the perfect shot.
My next Sony DSC camera came into my life when I lost the first one - drats. So, after more research, this time, I selected the Sony Cybershot DSC TX9 - as teeny as it's predecessor, the TX9 has been with me about 5 years now. But, it's not waterproof and, at this stage in my life, I want to spend as much time on the water as possible. So, enter the Sony Cybershot DSC TX-10. I couldn't be more pleased.
That's me in the photo in my first underwater shot in my pool. Guess I should have held my breath better to get away from the bubbles. Live and learn...

Sony DSC TX-10 features
What I will do though is to give you a looksee into a few of my absolute favorite features of the Sony TX10 underwater digital camera. They are below.
- 1This little underwater digital camera takes a wonderful panoramic view! And, you don't need a program to stitch the photos together like in the days of old. This camera even tells you how to pan from left to right, right to left, top to bottom, or bottom to top to get the perfect panorama shot. I think this is going to be a great feature on my next trip to Key West in a few weeks when we head out to the reef. Tune back in to see updated shots after August 24, 2011.

2Amazingly enough, this little camera can take 3D pictures! That's right - you just have to have a 3D device with which to view them, such as a TV or 3D camera. I've taken a few 3D pictures with this underwater camera and viewed them on my boyfriend's 3D laptop - they're gorgeous!
The Sony DSC TX-10 takes 3D still or 3D Sweep (panoramic) pictures. Can you imagine a panoramic 3D of the Grand Canyon? I can, and I will get that shot, one day. - 3The Sony DSC TX10 is rugged. It's shockproof from a fall of around 5' which is very important in my clumsy little world.
- 4And, my all time favorite Sony DSC TX-10 feature - Soft Skin Mode. Yes! What this means is that the camera automatically takes a few years (and pounds) off when taking pictures. Those pesky wrinkles around your mouth will be (*poof!) gone. Hot diggity. From one entering into the twilight years, I love this feature!

A poll about cameras
I'm curious about what your favorite camera is. Please vote in this poll and let me know.
Note: I took the picture in this module from about 100 feet off shore while bobbing on the jet ski. So, when I blew it up, it's understandably a bit fuzzy. But, the camera still captured a beautiful image!
Other underwater digital cameras you may like
And, in the spirit of full disclosure, here's what I don't really like about the Sony DSC TX10
- 1No viewfinder. Yep, you have to use the large screen on the back to compose and review photos. In bright sunlight, this is not the easiest chore. But, if the camera had a viewfinder, it would be way more bulky so I'll take the bad with the good.
- 2The Sony DSC TX-10 has a touch screen. Now, a lot of people prefer touch screens but not me. My fingers must be particularly oily or something as I'm always wiping away grungy fingerprints. It also seems to me that my touch screen is not very sensitive - I sometimes have to tap, tap, tap with the stylus to get the camera to respond.
- 3The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC TX-10 is a bit pricey. But, imho, you get what you pay for. There are, though, less expensive underwater cameras on the market but the reviews clearly put the Sony ahead of the pack.
- 4For some reason, thumbs seem to get in the picture more an in my past Sony cameras. Maybe my thumbs are growing...
Those blue eyes have not been retouched.
Every good Sony DSC TX10 camera owner should trick their camera out!

- Another fabulous lens by a lensmaster with a great talent for writing. Everyone one of your lens that I have seen so far either make me laugh or cry. You do have the best sense of humor ever! I do have a wonderful digital camera and I hope I won't need another one for quite a while, but when I do it will be a water proof one and I will have to come back here for it. Another angel blessing for you and I have added this one to My Squid Angel Wings too and put it in the "Computers & Electronics » Digital Cameras" neighborhood. In fact, this is the 1st camera lens to be added there. LOL! Great job, Lori!
