The Sony PlayStation Blu-ray Player Pros...
- Two machines in one, a game console and a blu-ray player. If you are a gamer or have anyone in the family who games, this makes the PlayStation 3 a great deal.
- A hugely important consideration, this machine out performs standalone units, even those that are more expensive.
- The PS can be upgraded to version 2.0 via the internet.
- DVDs look fantastic. Blu-ray discs, amazing.
- 1080p output. 'P' stands for progressive scan and refers to the way the image is displayed on your television. It is considered the better format for your blu-ray players.
- Fantastic sound quality in 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio.
- Compatible - updates regularly available from Sony for sound and video. Should help you avoid having to replace your blu-ray player for a while.
- Versatile - you can game, watch DVD and blu-ray movies, browse the internet, view pictures, stream music and more.
The Sony PlayStation Blu-ray Player Cons...
- To use a universal remote, you need an adapter.
- Older (over 30) folks do not like the joystick game controller.
- PlayStation 3 uses more power than standalone blu-ray players.
- The PlayStation 3 is more expensive than some standalone units.
- The PS3 does not have a visible counter which shows you where you are in a movie. (My son tells me that that information is available on the screen, if you want it.)
"The Sony PlayStation 3 is the most recommendable Blu-ray player available today. Some home theater die hards will insist on a standalone player, but everyone else should stick with the PS3 until standalones cost much less and perform comparably."

I have a PS3 and it is one of my best ever purchases. When it comes to watching blu-rays, you cannot beat a player that can be updated to incorporate the latest features as they come out. Oh and did i mention you can play hi def games :)
