Sophie Kinsella's novels

I decided to write this one after having read a few of Sophie Kinsella's books. Although i love her novels and the way it shows people the way they are. Although i sometimes find it exaggerated, thats is still a part of its charm and it still is nearer to reality in showing how people are, how they act and their relationships as compared to other books. But after reading more than 3 of her novels, i find that the main character of all the stories is way too similar. There is hardly any variety and that makes her characters predictable to a certain extent.

The reason to name the title this way is that i really love her novels and they are so different form others but there are some things that also bother me that i did not see in novels that are not so 'different'.

Sophie's characters

When I first read Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic series i loved it!! They were simply hilarious. The main character Rebecca Bloomwood is a person who is obsessed with shopping.. She is a shopaholic. And that gets her into debt. And she always denies that she has any problem, even though its painfully obvious. Or she would make excuses to herself for buying something she really does not need, convincing herself with completely unrealistic reasons how she might need it 'someday'. I found it really funny and sometimes it made me realize of how sometimes i used to deny a problem of my own.

But then I read her books "The Undomestic Goddess" and "Can You Keep A Secret?". When I read the former i realised something about her books always is the same!! Other than the fact that her books are based on women, which is perfectly fine, but both the characters are almost the same!! They have a habit or something they are obsessed about that get them into trouble! They have problems that they will deny (often with irritatingly stupid reasons). I find myself predicting the actions the character to a certain extent often being correct to some degree. Reading the next book just confirmed my conclusion!!! All her characters are the same by nature the only thing that is different is their obsessions and jobs!!! They are similar to the extent that they could be the same character!!!

I just want to ask the author Sophie Kinsella - Is this all the imagination you have got? You wrote such a great story and you ruin it by taking the same character for all of them!! I have read more than three novels from the same author but they are not THIS similar!!!! The characters written by the same author were different. And the issues were different!!! Even though I can't completely predict the story being able to predict the main character is not a very attractive feature for a novel!!

I really can't think about buying another novel from Sophie Kinsella.. I am just so dissapointed!!!
