Ed Wood: The Worst Movie Director Ever?
Ranked #5,398 in Entertainment, #59,207 overall
Ed Wood: A Salute To Incompetence
Is Ed Wood one of the most misunderstood movie directors, or was he just plain bad?
Over the years, Ed Wood has earned the title of one of the worst film directors ever, if not the worst. His movies included the now cult classics Plan 9 From Outer Space, Glen or Glenda and Bride of the Monster, among many others. These films in themselves have been recognized as some of the most poorly put together efforts ever committed to celluloid. But are we being fair to Ed Wood?
Anybody who has seen the Johnny Depp biopic will understand the struggles that Mr Wood had in achieving his visions of movie greatness. Several of his attempts are shown here, and you can be the judge whether he garnered that greatness or just sheer movie ineptitude.

Ed Wood: Plan 9 From Outer Space
Ed Wood's Masterpiece
Plan 9 From Outer Space is cult director Ed Wood's "cinematic masterpiece" - and also regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. Plan Nine is so bad it's good!
Alien invaders use their dreaded "Plan Nine" to re-animate dead earthlings. They wreak havoc and unleash a host of things bizarre, macabre, horrific, and just plain horrible. Using footage from a Bela Lugosi movie he was unable to finish (due to Lugosi's untimely death), Wood proved again he would and could make a film under any circumstances. Hubcaps on wires doubling for flying saucers, stumbling living dead, concrete visible beneath fake grass, and mattresses visible for actors to fall on are just a few of the unbelievable gaffes and goofs you'll see.
The result is a comical and campy spoof of science fiction movies themselves. The cast includes TV horror queen Vampira, a host of zombies, military buffoons, and Lugosi in his last performance. Plan Nine has taken on a legendary status of its own and is a MUST for any serious cult film fan.

- I was introduced to Ed Wood's work though the Johnny Depp movie. It is fantastic - one of my favorites. I think Ed Wood was a genuine person who really wanted to tell his stories. He's probably one of the best known directors of the 20th Century. Considering he was a nobody and did this with little to no money I think he was a creative genius. Excellent lens!

- Hi,
great lens.
Please make sure to also watch Tim Burton's "Ed Wood". The story is heartwarming and the cast beautifully conveys the spirit of companionship and the passion behind these films.
Ed Wood was passionate about his movies, and he didn't let himself derail from his path.
That's why I wrote a small blog-post on that http://managementfilms.wordpress.com/2010/04/19/ed-wood-follow-your-dream-2/
A lesson and an example to all of us to live our dreams as he lived his,
Cheers

- It couldn't happen today. Too much control from above. But it is funny, and a classic.

Poor Ed Wood, he tried, but his legacy still remains as one of the worst movie directors ever.
