Soul Line Dance Videos & Music
Soul line dances or urban line dances such as the Cha Cha Slide or Booty Call are similar to country line dances except danced to soul, funk, gospel, hip hop or contemporary pop music.
You may be familiar with the intricate footwork and hand/arm isolations on the hip hop dances seen on shows like America's Best Dance Crew. Unlike hip hop dances, soul line dances are somewhat more accessible and can be done by people of all ages, shapes and sizes.

You may be familiar with line dance songs like the Electric Slide or Macarena at weddings. Hip hop step dancing or soul line dancing offer the same kind of fun dancing with other people but without needing a partner.
Many of these songs and dances would also be great line dances for high school proms and should definitely be on the DJ's playlist. College dances, reunions, bachelor/bachelorette parties, retirement functions, mixers, and office parties could also slip in a line dance are two as they are so easy, everyone from kids to seniors can easily bust a move.

How I Discovered Soul Line Dances
The Latest East Coast Dance Craze
Soul Line Dances also known as step line dances, hip hop line dances and urban dances are being embraced as a great way to stay fit and healthy. Right now, soul line dance classes are being taught in churches, community centers, legion halls, night clubs and some fitness clubs. Soul Line Dance classes are often advertised by word of mouth, Craigslist, Facebook and MySpace.
I've been country line dancing since the late '80s and even learned "the hustle" back in the day when disco was still the thang. When looking for a line dancing class, I stumbled upon a soul line dance class in Washington, D.C. -- the latest dance craze sweeping the East Coast in U.S. cities like Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey & Maryland -- hip hop step dancing.

Brand New Slide is one of those super easy soul line dances thanks to the dance steps being called out by Casper. "Right foot walk it out, left foot, now right foot. Left foot cross it up, now cha-cha, turn your body around and cha-cha. Now cha-cha one more time." About half way through there's a fun tag where the dance slows down then eventually speeds up to regular time.

B2H is one of those super fast hip hop line dance songs that opens with M.I.A. singing "Where were you in '92". Quick footwork make this an intermediate level soul line dance with a high aerobic cardio workout and hip hop step dancing that feels like a college pep rally.

That Thang is a tricky up tempo dance that escapes my grasp every time it comes up for review. Because the beat is so fast, it psyches me out from learning it.
As with other soul line dances, if at first you don't get it, just relax, enjoy the music, stumble through and at least try to move in the same general direction as everyone else. Just try to learn one section at a time. It'll get easier the next time around.
