OM! The Power Of Sound
In the original Sanskrit text, sound was said to be the first thing to be created in our Universe. The vibrational waves that we call sound traveled out from a single point in the Universe to become the foundation of all matter, all thought and all energy!
Little wonder then that acoustic properties have always been a major consideration when planning sacred sites.

The best known mantra is OM or AUM
AAAH-OOO-NMM
Pronounce A-U-M, chanting the mantra 'OM' or 'AUM' is a representation of sound creating the universe. The 'AAAH' is a primal sound taking no effort, consider how babies often make this sound. The AAAH represents the birth of creation.
The 'OOO' is where sound begins to take shape, controlling the sound waves into form, one has to control the sound coming out of the mouth.
The 'NMM' is a nasal hum and a far more complex sound to make. It represents the progression of sound waves continuing to form the many different planes of existence
Chanting the OM mantra then is to connect ones self with the original sounds of creation
Why Do We Chant It?
To chant the sacred 'OM' mantra during concentrated meditation is to enable oneself to get in touch with the different levels of our own make up.
On a personal level the 'A' represents the self in the material world
The 'U' represents the formation of our psychic understanding.
The 'M' represents our spiritual connection to the universe

Sound Meditation In The 21st Century
It is now scientifically understood that sound frequencies can indeed go hand in hand with our brainwave frequencies - our states of mind.
It is obvious that the human being has always loved and always will love music, having the power to affect us on many different levels. It changes our moods and lifts our spirits almost instantly! Makes us happy...melancholy...energetic...dreamy.
The reason for this is that our brainwaves operate at the same frequencies as sound, categorized as Alpha, Beta, Theta and Delta. When we are exposed to various types of sound for a few minutes our brainwaves often begin to synchronize with those sound frequencies.
So...if we are exposed to mainly alpha sound frequencies in a particular type of way our brainwaves should begin to follow suit and switch into the Alpha brainwave frequency.

The Halls Of Our Mind
Alpha...Theta...Beta...Delta
An easy way to understand how we feel when in these dominating brainwave states is to imagine we are stood in the center of a circular room, there are several different colored open doorways around this room. Each doorway leads to a hall set with its own ambience and powers.
The Alpha Hall
Imagine we walk through the green doorway, you notice above the doorway is the sign; 'Alpha Hall'.In the Alpha hall there is a lovely relaxing atmosphere, you can hear soft bells ringing and birds singing all around you, the air is fresh and clean.
All around there are comfortable sofas, cushions and chairs inviting you to sit in them and rest.
If you wish in this room you can focus on everything very deeply and clearly, you feel a sense of understanding. You are very relaxed and soothed and can't help but settle into one of the soft, plush sofas and allow yourself to soak up the atmosphere.
You find you are able to tune out of the mundane things that dominate your mind and simply relax, enabling your unconscious mind a little time out to sort though the thoughts and make better judgments and decisions.

The Beta Hall
After a while and feeling wonderfully refreshed you leave the alpha hallway and return to the circular room, you then enter through the red doorway and see the sign above 'Beta Hall'.This room has an electric, vibrant atmosphere and you instantly feel an energy rush. There are clocks ticking, office desks, computers, phones ringing, gym equipment and lots of interesting activities ready for you to work with.
You feel alive and ready to take on the world. Ideas begin to form in your mind and you decide which activity you are going to perform first.
The Theta Hall
When you leave the Beta hall and return to the circular room you decide to go though the purple colored doorway. Above is the sign; 'Theta Hall'.When you enter the Theta hall your body starts to feel weightless. You begin to forget the immediate things on your mind and your present circumstances, instead you see yourself in a more meaningful way, as though you have taken a step back and have reached the control center of your being.
You feel you can conjure up various situations and surroundings, almost as though you are in a dream state. It's a magical room where anything is possible. In this hall you can study your life and behavior from a new perspective and understand and decide on the things you need in your life back in the circular room.
The Delta Hall
Back in the circular room you enter though the blue doorway, above is the sign; 'Delta Hall'. Inside the Delta hall it is as though it were night with a bright moon and sparkling stars in the sky. There is a distant singing that sounds like angels are serenading you.You immediately feel drowsy and notice there are beds and resting places all around. The atmosphere feels safe and healing, any pain you have seems to melt away.
You rest in a soft, downy bed and allow the warmth to soak into you and feel a wonderful healing energy enter your body. You drift away into a rejuvenating deep sleep.

How To Use The Mp3 Audio Meditation Music
The use of Headphones provides a more personal and intense effect AND avoids affecting those around you, that's why our session are for headphone use only. You will need to find a comfortable place to be, where you are least likely to be disturbed. If the environment is a little chilly, we suggest you have a blanket over you as your body temperature may drop. A glass of water may be needed at the end of the session.
When you begin to listen to the session your mind will probably start to wander over to everyday things in your life but try to keep returning your focus to the sounds in your head; this is normal and is the learned art of any type of meditation or hypnosis. After about six minutes of undisturbed listening your brain should begin to entrain toward the given frequencies. You may have strong visual reactions or strange feelings of altered consciousness. Try not to panic and bring yourself out of the states, allow any images to come into your mind - go with the flow, practice makes perfect!
It's useful to keep a diary for you to jot down your experiences after each session for later reflection.
To be on the safe side it's not advisable to use this type of audio if you are epileptic, prone to fits and seizures or pregnant. As with all meditation and hypnosis, DO NOT use whilst driving or operating machinery!!

- I've been meditating for several months now and can honestly say its changed my life. I went from an overworked and unhappy lawyer to now full time editor of an online site specifically about meditation (www.mymeditationgarden.com). I now want to share my experience and all the benefits of meditation with other professionals, students, and parents who can stand to learn about it and apply it in their daily lives! Check out my lenses by clicking on my picture. Great info!
