Soundtrack: The Big Year Score

18 songs are featured on The Big Year Soundtrack with songs by Theodore Shapiro. Music by The Devil Wears Prada composer, Theodore Shapiro, weaves seamlessly with the movie's stunning visuals of the Pacific Northwest filled with beautiful imagery of mountains, woodland and of course, birds.

For the most part, Shapiro's been handed the relatively simple task of writing an orchestral score for the birds which naturally lends itself to music with soaring musical crescendos.

His ultimate challenge was twofold: to find just the right tone for the playful, comedic scenes that accompany the competitive scenes between Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson without it seeming too slapstick or hammy while striking a balance for the emotional scenes for the movie's can-do message to resonate.

Other instrumental songs featured in the movie include Brad Mehladau's beautiful jazzy piano cover of the Beatles "Blackbird" along with Minor Swing performed by Stéphane Grappelli & Django Reinhardt and a classical piece from Vivaldi, on the often used "The Doge's Decree".
