How to make and prepare soup beans

2 lbs pinto beans
2 handfuls of salt
2 handfuls of lard
4 cloves of garlic
2 handfuls of brown sugar

Soak the beans overnight in a pan of water or parboil (covered overnight) them for 25 minutes. Then rinse the beans in luke warm water. Add ingredients in a clean pan starting with the beans.
Cover with water. You will need 8 quarts of water. Add garlic, lard, brown sugar and salt cook at medium to high flame until boiling, stirring on occassion for about 30 minutes. Then turn flame to medium low and cook for an additional 2 1/2 hours stirring more frequently.
The beans are done when they are tender and the soup is thick. The color should be like a light peanut butter color or a light tan.
*Parboiling - beans soak up the water and expand.
