How To Get Your Perfect Wedding Dress For As Little Money As Possible

This lens is dedicated to one of the (not surprisingly) most often asked questions I get when planning a wedding. Inexpensive Wedding Dresses are not always easy to come by, but they are out there for you if you're willing to spend time and research. And chances are with your time and research at the very least you will find a very affordable wedding dress that is also very elegant and stylish that compliments you well and your wedding theme well.

I am going to plug Erica Yoon's book here Amazing Wedding Planning. In her book Erica has a section about inexpensive wedding dresses titled "How to buy your perfect wedding dress online for as little as $50".

That is definitely an eye catching headline. Check out the book and see if you like her resources.

Three quick tips for reducing the price of your wedding dress

1) Buy off-season or last-season. This would be November-December time frame. This also happens to be when the bridal business slows down so you will find lower prices and/or more flexibility

2) Buy the accessories separately. For convenience you can get them at the bridal shop, but realize that wedding dress accessories tend to have a high markup at the bridal shops as well. Ebay is great for this!

3) You do not need to find the perfect size dress. Even if you do get the "perfect size dress" you will need to alter it to fit you exactly anyhow. So finding a dress in a close size is sufficient. And then get a professional tailor to finish the job.

And a last tip, Ebay is a great source for wedding dresses as well. Make sure to find a "reputable" seller (high feedback ranking). Many really nice dresses, new and used, are on ebay for very little money. To put it in perspective, a nice wedding dress at a local store may cost you $1500. A comparable wedding dress on ebay could probably be found for $50 to $200.

The Shoes! The Shoes!

Okay, I know how all of us (or at least most of us) love shoes.

We love our shoes.

That being said, I talked recently to some friends of mine who are ballroom dancers and teachers. Whenever they teach lessons they always ask the bride to wear the shoes she will be dancing in for their first dance.

About 10% of the time, the brides end up not going with the original high heels they had planned to wear and instead wear a wedge or some other type of comfortable shoe that they can stand in all day and dance in.

And then they come back and tell my dance teacher friends that they didn't even bother with the shoes they had originally bought because with the big bridal gown no one could really get a good look at the shoes anyway.

One exception I suppose would be the garter toss, but by that time of the night it may be a bit more SEXAY to do it shoeless.

Anyway, point being, one way to save on the dress is to find less expensive and showy shoes since
1) you probably won't be able to see them anyway
2) they will be more comfortable
