South Carolina is My Home State

South Carolina is a small state in the southeastern part of the United States. Our population numbers over 4,321,249.

From the mountains to the coast, South Carolina is dotted with small towns filled with friendly, happy people. Our weather is almost always perfect. We rarely have snow or ice. You can play golf every month of the year.

South Carolina is also a historical state and we take great pride in our history. We treasure our old homes and battlegrounds.

The natural environment is often breath-taking in its beauty - see a sunset on the beach or the mountains in the fall.

in reply to drifter0658 The dialect could have been Gullah which is often heard in that area. We go to Edisto at least once a year and really love it. So glad that you were able to visit our beautiful state and thank you for visiting this lens.

Charleston IS a beautiful city. About 15 years ago I took my family to Edisto for a week. The island was surreal then. We crossed the Intercoastal onto a part of the island that was definitely of poor economic status. Then, all of a sudden, it was if we entered Galt's Gulch, a resort community opened before us.

Funny thing about entering Edisto at the time was, it was the first weekend of college football season, and I had no idea that the Gamecock was the mascot of USC. All we saw as we were headed to the condo were signs that read as such,"GO COCKS". They were everywhere. Horrible visions of Fire Island raced through my mind as I looked in the review at my two children.

Whew!

By the way, we stopped in an ice cream shop, in some little town on the way back and I attempted a conversation with the shop's owner. I say attempted because he spoke a dialect I was never subjected too. Later I found out that the dialect is indigenous to that region. Is it called Soweto?

Thanks for this!
