The Southern Caribbean: More Natural & More Exotic Destinations

Cruise Lines generally divide their Caribbean Cruises into three distinct groups: Eastern Caribbean, Western Caribbean, and Southern Caribbean.

The exact destinations for each cruise depend on the cruise line and upon the number of days in the cruise. It is a matter of logistics. You can get more destinations in on a 10 or 12 day cruise than you can on a 3, 4, 5, or 7 day cruise.

This lens will concentrate on the cruise lines with Southern Caribbean destinations, and link to specific lenses for each destination within the Southern Caribbean area. Although the departure cities are considered part of the destination list, I am not including them in my lenses on destinations.

The same will be done for Eastern Caribbean destinations, and for Western Caribbean destinations.

There is some overlap of destinations among the different cruise areas since most of the cruise departure cities of in the U.S. or San Juan, Puerto Rico. For that reason, some destinations that are not geographically part of the named group will be included along the route.

This lens is part of a series of lenses detailing the cruise industry in the Caribbean area and specific destinations within this area.

Who Should Take A Southern Caribbean Cruise?

In my other lenses, I pointed out that a good first cruise should probably be a Western Caribbean cruise. An Eastern Caribbean cruise offers more stops and variety than a Western Caribbean Cruise, and are particularly good for active cruisers who want to do a lot of sightseeing.

The Southern Caribbean cruises are best reserved for the seasoned cruiser because you will probably need a vacation to recover from your cruise. Why? The Southern cruise destinations are very close geographically and you will find yourself going to more places in less time. That means you will not have as much relaxation time at sea.

I generally like to start my Southern Caribbean cruise from San Juan, Puerto Rico, since I have relatives there and incorporate a family visit into my cruise schedule. However, if you would prefer to start yours from Panama, Barbados, or Florida, these are also options.

The number and specific destinations each cruise line includes in its Southern Caribbean route varies by cruise line and number of days on the cruise. These destinations may not all be on a given cruise but all of these countries are included in some of the cruise lines' Southern Caribbean routes. One Couple's Video Record Of A Southern Caribbean Cruise

"Vicarious Living At It's Best"

For those who wish to see in detail what a Southern Caribbean cruise can be like, I am including a series of eight YouTube videos by a Texas Couple who made a Southern Carribbean cruise on the Royal Caribbean "Serenade of The Seas".

You may not wish to watch all the videos since, in total, they run over an hour. However, they are here for you to come back to when you have more time and wish to look at one person's experience at a given destination.
