Sugar, baby - the real deal!

Sylvestermouse says:

Sweet tea for me, please :)

nsixx99 says:

Sweet is the only real way in the south!

BuddyShearer says:

SWEET!

And the tea has to be a dark color of brown not some watered down light brown.

waldenthree.net says:

Congrads on reaching Squidoo Level 54. Just got there myself. Thanks.

Sandra Clayton says:

Sweet! I drank sweet tea until last Spring when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes .... well, I still sweeten my tea, but now with "sweeteners" (preferably natural ones). I don't find it nearly as good as my "southern sweet tea", but am getting used to it. :)

I'm sweet enough - skip the cane!

JGracey says:

Um, real tea is hot, not iced. In Georgia they call it "sweet tea". Our first trip there I had no idea what they were talking about, I order tea with no sugar and got bitter iced tea :) They had no idea how to make hot tea either. Funny food in the south, ll.

favored1 says:

No sugar for me.

TravelingRae says:

I try not to drink my calories, so unsweet with lemon, please.

davespeed says:

I am one the rare Southerners who prefers my tea unsweetened.

Lil says:

Unsweetened. People are fat enough without drinking syrup all day!

A quick Tea Quiz

Whip up a batch of Ice Tea.

Here is the classic recipe for sweet ice tea according to AmazingRibs.com

And a few more that have been passed on from family to family for generations:

Recipe #1 Southern Sweet Iced Tea

Ingredients
3 Family size tea bags
2 Cups of cold water
1 Cup of sugar

Directions
We in the south make the best iced tea you'll find. Maybe it's how it's done, or maybe it is the water in the south, or maybe it's just that a southern belle has put a lot of TLC into making the tea. Who knows!

We recommend Luzianne Tea Bags if available.

Place the two cups water in a pot and add the tea bags. Bring to a boil, do not continue boiling. Remove from heat and let steep. Pour warm tea into empty pitcher. Add the sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Fill remaining pitcher with cold water.

Optional - some women say they use less water and add ice to the tea.

Recipe #2 Southern Sweet Iced Tea

Ingredients:
3 Family sized tea bags
a pinch baking soda (about 1/4 teaspoon)
1 to 1 1/3 cups of sugar

Directions:
Here is my never fail sweet tea...
Everyone (even yankees) loves it.

Bring 3-4 cups of water to a boil. Add a pinch of baking soda to the water and add 3 family sized tea bags. Remove from heat and cover. Allow to sit for at least 10-15 minutes. Pour into gallon pitcher and add sugar. Then fill with cold water. Refrigerate.

*the soda takes out the bitterness and darkens the tea....this small amount doesnt change the taste.

Recipe #3 Sun Tea (no cooking!)

Ingredients:
3 Family sized tea bags
1 quart water
Glass or translucent pitcher

Directions:
Here is my easy, no work needed...Sun Tea

Put the water and tea bags in the pitcher. Put in the Sun and let sit. In about 30 minutes to an hour you have tea. Add cold water to desired strength. Refrigerate.

This recipe is great for guys who can't cook!

Note: The sun does not usually heat water up enough to kill all the bacteria, so you should take proper cleaning procedures and throw out the tea if it ends up looking weird (extra thick, has strands in it, is syrupy).

Lemon?

Everyone has their own preference.

When it comes to iced tea, I am rather particular. I always hate it when the waitress says, sugar's on the table. My foot! You don't sweeten tea after it is cold! LOL

My Dad is from Alabama, so my mom made sweet ice tea...syrupy sweet with real sugar! :)

I drink tea every day, hot, cold, whatever. Gotta have my tea (no sugar please).

Enjoyed your iced tea lens. I definitely prefer sweet tea, but we do make ours with sweetener these days instead of real sugar.

We Southerners pronounce it so that the "d" in the word "iced" is swallowed or dropped, but everyone knows that when its put in writing, it is "iced tea", well almost all of us, anyway.

Lately, we have become very fond of Cinnamon tea, made by boiling cinnamon sticks... no sweetner needed!

    I am feeling thirs'tea' right now! :)

Baking soda? Hmm, I've never heard that before. So glad you included sun tea. Sun tea is so yum. Right now we're having temps of 105 or more daily. That would make some great sweet tea.

For some reason, I'm craving a nice glass of iced tea right now!
