Painting Journal
30 years in Art
I have a thing about Cone Flowers. I paint them frequently and have over the years. I also have a series called Night Palms, which I've been working on for about 20 years.
I like working in series, especially long term. It means that I don't have to do exclusively the theme of the series. I can put it aside for awhile and do other paintings, coming back to the series every now and then to work on it.
In fact most of my work is serial. I like painting rivers, marshes, vintage buildings and many other subjects which I can take my time to study over long periods of time. The subject becomes an old friend that I like spending time with.
I started the door series today with a cartoon painting. I like cartooning and am going to do part of the series with the cartoon style. It will be fun.
Today I read an article in a magazine about artists who work on cruise ships. I t sounds very intruiging. I am going to research that further.
I am doing a painting now in preparation for a big show in north Florida called Big Painting-Big Wood. It is going to be all large painting 30x40 and larger, and handmade furniture from Florida designers. I think it is going to be really cool. My painting is 36x48 inches, and is of the lillies that bloom on Paynes Prairie, here in north Florida.

It's a busy time of year. I am doing acrylics for a month or two. I like to change up mediums to keep life interesting. I'm doing lots of small paintings, getting ready for my Coffee and Dessert Studio Party on February 10-11, 2007. I love having studio parties and I have at least two each year.
