Reading this page will inform you of all of the needless facts about space that you didn't know (or did...) Venture (figuratively) though space, learning about the Sun, the Moon, all of the planets, and the dwarf planet along the way!

The facts are on all the planets, the moon, and the sun. By the end of your reading, you will have plenty of useless facts about space lingering in your brain. Though they may come in handy some day...

Mercury

  • Not including Earth, Mercury is the densist planet in our solar system

  • The sun looks two and a half times bigger from Mercury
  • The Romans named it after the Greek god Mercury

  • Venus is Earth's 'twin'. They are similar is size, distance from the sun, etc
  • To find out how much you would weigh on Venus, multiply your weight by 0.91

  • Carbon Dioxide and Nitrogen are what you would find in Venus's atmosphere

  • Venus revolves around the sun in the opposite direction of all the other planets, clock wise

  • Neptune is blue because of its methane

  • We have only been close to Neptune once

    Pluto

    (Dwarf) Planet #9

  • Pluto has three moons
  • Pluto's largest moon is called Chiron which is almost half the size of Pluto
  • Before Pluto got it's name, they called it Planet X
  • A spacecraft is currently on its way to Pluto. It was launched in 2005 and is expected to land in 2015
  • Seven of the moons in our solar system are larger than Pluto
  • Pluto's orbit goes through Neptunes, so at times Pluto is closer to the sun than Neptune
  • 134340 is Pluto's number in the minor planet catalog (poor Pluto!)
  • Pluto is about 4.5 billion years old (the same age as the sun)
  • Pluto has an atmosphere made of mostly nitrogen, but a little of carbon monoxide and methane too
  • Pluto's diameter is 2340 km (1454 miles)
