How do you prepare spaghetti?

Some cooks believe spaghetti sauce must be made from scratch using fresh ingredients. Other cooks say they don't have time to chop everything and that the bottled sauce tastes just as good.

Do you think it is necessary to prepare spaghetti sauce from scratch?

Loading

Yes, using fresh ingredients is necessary.

johnny cash says:

it is true

johnny cash says:

now this is pretty good but if all you put together make a spaghetti my dad will beat and blow you away in a micro second if it were a measurement you would be a millimeter and my dad would be the endless amount of space

ellagis says:

No choice... it IS necessary!!!!! If I have no time to prepare spaghetti sauce with fresh ingredients, I dress them with something else - at least even melted butter and parmesan cheese, that´s the fastest way to dress them (in Italy we call it "pasta in bianco", white pasta)

grano says:

The best sauce is from scratch visit my lenses and probably you will find some great tips to make your next pasta dish.
Ciao!

McCourt says:

yes

Nope, bottled sauce is just as good.

Jim says:

no

CrazyforCollecting says:

In my case, bottled sauce is better. (Well, actually I like Hunts canned sauce the best -- chunky vegetable style.) Of course, I add sauted onions, green and red pepper, mushrooms, and ground beef, and let it simmer for awhile.

AmateurAtHTML says:

Necessary, no. Preferable, sometimes. But I never use spaghetti sauce from a jar without doing something to it! So I can't say that bottled sauce is JUST AS GOOD, but I use it.

BigGirlBlue says:

I don't think it is necessary. And not all "from scratch" sauces are created equal. But if someone wants to make it for me than I graciously accept and enjoy. :) The same goes for can sauces. Not all sauces taste the same and I believe you have to try many to find the that suits your taste buds.

Suko says:

No, I really don't. Start with a can of good organic tomato sauce, and add your own herbs and spices, and maybe some steamed mushrooms. In this way, you personalize the sauce to your liking. Or you can choose sauce in a glass bottle, and add to it in the same way.

Here's a customer review of the pasta machine:
"Great purchase., March 22, 2008
By Sam Ramsey "Sam" (Minneapolis, MN United States) - See all my reviews

I just bought one of these at a local store (it was the only model they carried) since I didn't want to wait for shipping. I've used it twice now. Here are my impressions:
It's built solid, and seems like a great value.
The clamp (which is removable) does its job very well. However, you may have to be creative in finding a place where you can actually clamp the thing and still use it. I clamped it to my slide-out cutting board.

It's easy to adjust the thickness of the pasta. You just pull out the knob on the side, and turn it to the desired position (there are 8 settings, and they each "click" in to place).

The recipe/instruction book that comes with it really isn't very good (at least from my 1 time trying a recipe from it). I followed the pasta recipe on there once and it turned out horribly (though it may have been because I was just using it for the first time). I found some great videos on youtube that demonstrate how to make pasta and had much better luck the second time around.
I made a batch of fresh spaghetti tonight, and it was absolutely to-die-for. Easily the best spaghetti I've ever had. The difference with fresh pasta is incredible. It's like comparing stale bread to home-baked fresh bread. No comparison.

All in all I feel that this is a terrific purchase that met and exceeded my expectations. I'd easily buy this again and see no need to buy a more expensive model -- this does the job perfectly."

Spaghetti Bolognese using leftover cooked hamburger.

Star of TV show Housewives of NY cooks spaghetti!

Clever way to use leftover ground meat, like from meatloaf or hamburgers that were cooked and not eaten. When she uses Marinara sauce, you can use a bottled Marinara sauce from the grocery store. When she uses chopped chives, you can use 1/2 of an onion chopped into small pieces. You can also add finely chopped carrots and or finely chopped celery, too.

Spaghetti with Sausage at Olive Garden Restaurant

This is the delicious spaghetti meal my husband ordered at Olive Garden Restaurant today. He enjoys Italian sausage and that prompted his choice of entree. Since spaghetti is so easy to prepare at home, I never order it when eating out. I enjoyed mushroom stuffed ravioli. Our meals were served with a large salad bowl and warm bread rolls. All delicious!

As Italian, pasta is my favourite dish!!!! I always eat it for lunch: it´s good, quick and healthy (of course, it´s healthy as long as you use healthy and light ingredients to dress it!)

I love spaghetti. If you can believe it, my daughter doesn't care for it at all. (I always thought that kids were born with an addiction to spaghetti and ice cream. She doesn't care for ice cream either.) If it were up to me...spaghetti once a week and some other form of pasta for a second dinner. And of course, you can never get the quantities just right so there are alway leftovers. (Completely by accident -- it wasn't planned that way -- totally accidental!)

I like spaghetti, but it's messy. Spaghetti me = stained shirt, so usually it's more of a penne or shells type of pasta that I eat. Nice work!
