Spain and the islands of the Canaries and Balearics are a great place for visitors wanting to try a motorhome rental or campervan hire holiday. Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias, Valencia. The city of Arts and Sciences Centre is an amazing modern structure. The Hemisfèric IMAX cinema, the Príncipe Felipe Science Interactive Museum, the Oceanográfico the largest aquarium in Europe with over 500 marine species and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía for music and artistic displays and performances are all here.

Frigliana, Costa del Sol. On of the traditional pueblos blancos, Frigliana is a mountain village above Nerja. There's no need to drive here, the roads are quite narrow and there are excellent public transport links from Nerja.

Alhambra, Granada. One of the most beautiful buildings in Europe. The Moorish palace is a place to spend the whole day, beautiful architecture and equally beautiful grounds and views.

Barcelona, Catalonia. A city that has it all, beaches, architecture, great food and entertainment. Barcelona is a relaxed place to visit and for lovers of art Gaudi's buildings are simply amazing.

Ronda, Costa del Sol. The old town of Rhonda hasn't changed from when it was originally built with its centrepiece being the bullring. The views from the bridge over the gorge have inspired films.

Madrid. You cannot tour Spain without visiting the capital city. Madrid has everything you would expect, good transport links, great shopping and some majestic buildings.

Seville, Andalusia Great for oranges but also a wonderful town to walk around. Home to one of the world's largest cathedrals, quaint shops and modern amenities. An unspoilt gem.

Santiago de Compostela, Galacia. Santiago de Compostela is not just a tourist town, but a place of pilgrimage to St. James. Join the thousands who still visit today and place your hand in the imprint left on the marble column by travellers of old. Even for the non religious visitors, this place is quite exceptional.

Briones, La Rioja. Probably not a place that rings any bells, but for wine lovers this is the place to visit if you love Rioja. Dinastia Vivanco is a winery with the most comprehensive wine museum anywhere. Visit five floors containing everything related to wine, from the grapes to bottles and beyond.

Lanzarote. One of the islands had to be in here somewhere. Lanzarote is here for those who appreciate something a little different. The volcanic lava makes Lanzarote an interesting place to spend some time. You can visit the Montañas del Fuego or Fire Mountains of Timanfaya National Park for a demonstration of just how hot it is on top of a volcano or visit the home of Cesar Manrique if you like modern art, funky furniture and an interesting lava feature.

The beautiful Basque country
The Basque country is a mix of beautiful fishing villages and ancient towns with long histories, it also has something else, good food. Over 21 Michelin stars have been awarded to restaurants here, maybe it's because this is where you will find Spain's most famous chefs hiding out.

Arnedillo. Outside the village of Arnedillo are the Roman bathes or Balneario. Here you can be pampered with traditional treatments and remedies, or for those on a budget the thermal pools in the river are free.

Hondarribia. The beautiful port town of Hondarribia sits on the border with France. It has one of the best beaches and even better places to eat and drink.

Antonana. This is the Basque country's most well preserved walled village; it's an absolute picture and hardly a tourist in sight out of the main holiday season.

Bermeo. The traditional fishing village of Bermeo is to the east of Santander. The tall and narrow houses crowd around the harbour, which is also where you will find some great restaurants. Ask for the catch of the day and accompany it with the local sparking wine called txacoli

Asturias & Cantabria
The regions of Asturias & Cantabria have some of the most beautiful and unspoilt places to visit in the country. There are mountains, beaches and historic towns which really are off the beaten tourist track.

Cabrales. There are beautiful mountains everywhere you look in the Pyrenees; the most distinctive is Narjo de Bulnes in the Picos de Europa. This mountain is for serious climbers with all the right gear but the nearby trails offer those who prefer a more gentle walk to get some great photos.

Cangas de Onis. Still in the Picos de Europa the Lagos de Covadonga are two beautiful lakes with magnificent views and plenty of picnic areas. Ideal for campervans and motorhomes.

Llanes. Down from the mountains and onto the beach, the Playa de Niembro is an undeveloped, unspoilt place to relax. It's quite a walk from the parking area which means that you will always find a secluded spot, perhaps that's why it's popular with nudists!

There are very few places which you can truly say are off the beaten tourist track, but the north of Spain is most definitely one of them. These areas are ideal for those with a motorhome rental or campervan hire because you can pick from any amount of rest stops or even just a place in the mountains and you know you will never be disturbed.
