Relaxing days in Alicante
In August 2006, I visited Alicante, a land located on the Spanish East coast. People who visit this area usually go to the most touristy spot: Benidorm, full of beaches and pubs. But Alicante has many other interesting places, less crowded and worthy to be visited. I invite you to travel virtually with me through this lens and have a look by yourself!
This lens is part of a collection about Spain. If you are interested in getting to know other parts of this beautiful country, you can visit the master lens and follow the links included there:
Spain in depth
Renewing energy in Alicante (1st part)
Alicante is one of the areas in Spain where families usually go for holidays, especially to Benidorm.
The little villages along the coast, like Altea, are lovely. Hilly and narrow alleyways paved with cobblestones, white houses looking to the world through old balconies, the sun playing at dawn on the surface of the peaceful Mediterranean sea.

Alicante has many other interesting spots. There are breathtaking mountains where the wind whispers at your ear. Atop of them you can go back in time, feeling the history excavated on the rocks, witness of invasions and recaptures. There you can come across a cleft running through a rocky mountain and arrive to Guadalest, an old fortress built by the Moors over 1200 years ago. It can be only accessed through a tunnel carved through 50 feet of solid rock and its views over the valley are spectacular.

- I would like to advance all of you that I have been in Calpe twice and that was an amazing experience.
Calpe has fabulous beaches with clear sand. And its most famous natural area is the "Rock Ifach". You can enjoy its summer weather during the whole year and afterwords you also can have fun going out, drinking bears and tasty sangria.
Besides, the people are very sociable, you can meet lots of them from arround the world. Calpe not only has nice beaches, it also has cultural diversity, such as the fashion Comic museum, the Queen's baths (archaeological site), the Mascarat castle, The Peça tower, etc.
Furthermore, you also can play different water activities like: renting watercraft, sailing, diving...
If you want to know more information about Calpe and also find accomodation, let's visit the next website. There you will get everything you need:

Renewing energy in Alicante (2nd part)
Local villagers are kind and welcoming, and the atmosphere is lively day and night. Moreover, the gastronomy is excellent, as in any part of Spain. Plenty of sidewalk cafés in the streets, full of people enjoying the colourful salads, lamb slowly roasted over wood, the famous paella or desserts that would make you feel like if you had arrived to a sweet heaven.

In summary, Alicante is a charming place worthy to be visited. I came back home with renewed energy after such a wonderful time in this land. A great holiday!
