The Cuban - South American Spanish Music
Salsa music is a diverse and mainly Spanish Caribbean music style that is popular all over Latin America and particularly also among Latinos.Salsa unites many different styles and variations of music. The term 'Salsa' can be used to describe almost any form of popular Cuban-derived music, like i.e. the 'ChaChaChá' or the 'Mambo'.
When trying to be more precise, 'Salsa' really only refers to a style developed aorund the 1960s and 1970s by Cuban and Puerto Rican immigrants in New York City. Their style is now played all over in the Latin American countries and abroad.

There is a number of well known Spanish Guitar Players and Composers of guitar music:
- Gaspar Sanz (1640 - 1710) was a Spanish composer and priest. He became the dominant figure of Spanish baroque music, and has influenced several composers well into the twentieth century.
- Dionisio Aguado was a Spanish classical guitarist and composer (1784 - 1849).
- Fernando Sor (full name: Joseph Fernando Macari Sors or José Fernando Macarurio Sors) (1778 - 1839) was a Spanish guitarist and composer. In Spain he is sometimes refered to as the "Beethoven of the Guitar".
- Julián Arcas was a Spanish classical guitarist and composer (1832-1882).
- José Ferrer Esteve de Fujadas was a Spanish guitarist and composer (1835 - 1916).
- Francisco Tárrega (Francisco de Asís Tárrega y Eixea) (1852 - 1909) was a Spanish composer, and one of the most influential guitarists. He is considered by many to be the father of modern classical guitar playing.
- Miguel Llobet Solés or Miquel Llobet (in Catalan) was a classical guitarist and composer (1878 - 1938).
- Emilio (Emili) Pujol Vilarrubi (1886-1980) was a composer and one of the leading twentieth century musicologists and classical guitar teachers.
- Regino Sainz de la Maza y Ruiz (1896 - 1981) was a brilliant Spanish guitar player. In 1935, he was named professor of guitar at the Madrid Conservatory. On November 6, 1940 he played the guitar at the premiere of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez in Barcelona.
- Andrés Torres Segovia was a Spanish classical guitar player (1893 - 1987). Adres Segovia is one of the most well known names among contemporary and recent guitar players.
Spanish Guitar Music - Famous Composers and Guitar Players II
- Celedonio Romero was a guitarist, composer and poet, perhaps best known as the founder of the 'Los Romeros' guitar quartet (1913 - 1996). He is the father of Angel, Celin and Pepe Romero.
- Angel Romero (born 1946) is a Spanish classical guitarist and former member (1960-1990) of the guitar quartet Los Romeros. In February 2000 Angel Romero was presented with the Spanish 'Grand Cross of Isabel la Catolica' and was knighted for his musical accomplishments. In 2007, he was honoured by the Recording Academy, producer of the Grammy Awards, with the Recording Academy President's Merit Award.
- Celin Romero (born 1936) is a contemporary classical guitarist and member of the guitar quartet 'Los Romeros'. He is Professor of Music and Guitar at the University of California, San Diego.
- Pepe Romero (born 1944) is a contemporary world-renowned classical and flamenco guitarist. He has recorded over 50 solo albums and 30 albums as part of the famed guitar quartet 'Los Romeros'.
- Pablo Sáinz Villegas (born 1977) is a Spanish classical guitarist. Pablo Sáinz Villegas has given master classes at distinguished universities such as the Royal College of Music in London and the National University of Australia.

For four decades, Spanish guitarist Paco de Lucia's jazzy, Mephisto-like technique redefined flamenco. This CD, which means "Good Small Things," is de Lucia's first release in five years, and it's been worth the wait. Most of the eight tracks feature just de Lucia, a chorus of vocalists, percussion, and the zesty handclaps called palmas. Lucia and company take you through the Moorish, Jewish, and Gypsy inventions and dimensions of flamenco, from the buleria "Patio Custodio" and the torrid tientos "El Tesorillo" to the moody, mid-tempo buleria por solea "Antonia." Guitarists Juan D' Anyelica and Tomatito join de Lucia on "El Dengue," and "Que Vengo el Alba," which also features a vocal track from the late singer Camaron de la Isla. Luzia
This is a tribute album to his mother and he evidently was very inspired as this is an exceptional CD. Established as one of the true masters of flamenco he continues to impress wih his mastery and virtuosity. His style is even more elegant on this CD , as though he has nothing to prove, just another fine piece of music without ventures into jazz or other genres. The simplicity displayed of his tremendous technical skill is beautiful, inspiring and exhillirating. If you love pure falmenco with bulerias, soleas and rondenas, this is for you. This is one of his best releases and is essential and vital Paco de Lucia, the master Spanish flamenco guitarist. Almoraima
Paco de Lucia was 28 years of age and already clearly acknowledged as the world's premier flamenco guitarist ( a position he has yet to relinquish ) when in 1976 he recorded "ALMORAIMA", a work that pays unprecedented ( in flamenco music ) attention to production values while displaying a number of other unique characteristics.
Building on the instrumentation displayed on "Entre Dos Aguas" (1973), Paco employs the electric bass and congas on portions of almost all the compositions. He overdubs a nylon string "oud" ( Arabic lute ) on several cuts. As an amateur guitarist I've only recently discovered Emilio Pujol's solo guitar works, having been more familiar with Maximo Diego Pujol's guitar music. This recording has the 'best' of Emilio's music, with my personal favorites being 'Festivola', 'Barcarolle', and 'Guajira'. David Russell also has included Emilio Pujol on his latest recording, 'Spanish Legends'. I actually prefer Marcotulli's performance of 'Festivola' over Russell's; Marcotulli seems to have more enthusiasm (not that I'm slighting Russell; he's one of my favorite guitarist!).
