In My Opinion: Go To School vs. Go On Line
The Choice Depends On You Money, Your Time, and Your Personal Disposition.
Okay, I'll be honest. Personally, my wallet is not really geared towards spending a lot of extra money at the moment. I looked into getting a tutor or taking a class somewhere and it was gonna cost a lot. In addition, I wasn't too crazy about signing up for hours of classes that would take months to complete. What's more, I've always done a whole lot better learning things on my own at my own pace rather than sitting through dull classes. I don't know how you are, but that's just me. So an online study program to learn how to speak Chinese seems to me to be the best choice.
But, don't get me wrong. If you've got the time and money, classes might be best for you. My mom for example should take that route if she was gonna learn Chinese. (She's Greek-American by the way). There's no way she could do a study program like this at home, it's just not her style. And she's retired, she's got the time and the money and she'd love to get out and make friends at a school and stuff.
So anyway, it's the online route for me. But more on that in a moment.
My Favorite Home-Study Learn To Speak Chinese Language Program
I found it online, and believe me, a looked alllllll over haha.
After digging around on the Internet a lot, I found a bunch of Learn To Speak Chinese programs to choose from. A lot of them were pretty ridic. They seemed like just a bunch of audio tapes and stuff. So I won't spend a lot of time on those.A handful or so seemed pretty legit. It kind of seemed like they were all pretty much the same. But upon digging further I found some important differences.
I think I'll just jump ahead right now to the one I ended up choosing. It's a program called Rocket Chinese. (cool name too haha)
Here are my reasons for picking it over all the over programs I Googled and researched...
1. They said that their program included audio tapes (good enough), memory games, and summary quizzes (that sounded a lot more fun than some of the others).
2. They offered a FREE 6-day trial (Can't beat that. Check it out. If it sucks send it back. I like that.)
3. Access to a 24/7 online support forum for members only where Chinese teachers and native speakers would answer your questions and help you out. (That sounded real good to me and like something I would want to use a lot.)
4. The cost was under $100. (That was around half the cost of my next closest choice. Again the wallet thing.)
