How Words Affect Our World

Consider the effect words have on our daily circumstances. You know that you can read a book and get so involved in it that it moves you. It's just ink on paper but those words have the ability to cause an emotional reaction.

Most counselors know that if a child is told that he is worthless enough times that he believes it, it will become a self-fulfilling prophesy in his life. Maybe that is an extreme case, but sometime in our lives, we all battle the voice in our heads that emphatically states the opposite of what we desire.

You want to speak well in front of a group. The voice inside you tells you that you will stutter and fall on your face.

You want to get a good job. The voice in your head tells you that no one wants to hire you.

Wherever that voice comes from, whatever it is made up of, it affects our self-image and how we interact with the world around us. We have to overcome it to reach for any kind of success. If you have fought that battle, you know what I am talking about. It seems like words have the power to grab our emotions and elicit a corresponding action in response. As we mature, we learn to control our actions but the emotions behind those words still affect us.

You have to understand that words are much more powerful than most of us realize. They are the foundation of creation. The Bible teaches us that God created the Heavens and the Earth when He spoke (Genesis).

There is a man named Masaru Emoto who has done extensive research into the effect of words, emotions and thoughts on the environment. This is fascinating.

You really can't separate thoughts, emotions and words.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth the good. And an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth the evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

What is in you will come out. That is why there are so many self-help courses. People are trying desperately to change what is on the inside of them.

People watch the movie The Secret and videos like Mind Movies to change their thinking so that the Law of Attraction will bring good things their way. I don't have a problem with that because I believe that God has set certain laws in effect and like gravity, the Law of Attraction is a real law. It works just like the Law of Sowing and Reaping works. The more we understand these laws and work with them, the fewer "falls" we take. But no matter how many movies we watch, they can't change our fundamental problem. Without God, we are lost. He is our Father and until we come to terms with that, there is a hole in the center of our being that nothing else can fill.
