Inspired by Science
Jars of preserved animals often line the shelves of biology labs and museum collections. I've created my own twist on these, tiny clay animals preserved in jars to be worn.
Biology and Jewelry Combined
I've always found old specimen jars full of preserved creatures to be endlessly fascinating (this also inspired my Perma-Pets as well). Combine that with my quirky sense of humor and love of science and I came up with these tiny specimen jar necklaces. Each necklace is made of a wire-wrapped bottle with a tiny sculpted polymer clay animal or animal part inside, the jar is then filled with a clear resin to simulate the liquid and a cork tops it all off.
The wire-wrapping is sterling silver and each necklace comes on a 24" genuine silk cord with silver plated lobster clasp.
Specimen Jar Jewelry
Tiny sculpted creature and body parts encapsulated in a resin filled jar. Definitely the creepiest jewelry I've ever created. Available from Noadi's Art http://noadi.etsy.com // Music by zero-project http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/zero-project - created at http://animoto.com

Pickled Punks
Pickled punks is the carny term for human fetuses preserved in jars of formaldehyde and used as sideshow attractions. Most pickled punks display some sort of anatomical abnormality, such as conjoined twins or polycephaly; however, the deformities present are as varied as the nature of human inflictions. Faked pickled punks, made from rubber or wax, are known as "bouncers" for their tendency to bounce when dropped on the floor.

- Love your specimen jar necklace collection! I've run across it several times and finally found the lens that contains them. Linked to my Halloween blog post today. :-)

- That's too funny. I don't have any actual jars of preserve animals but I do have a naturally mummified toad and some fossils in my collection.

- Now THIS is unique! I have to laugh though, I recall my older sister having a fetal shark that she kept in a glass jar in her closet for years. My mother totally freaked out when she came upon it several years later after my sister had moved out.
