Speed Up Your Computer

As you use your computer and save files, move stuff around etc, your hard drive gets fragmented. This means that one single file can be little pieces all over your hard drive and every time you want to use that file, the computer has to look around to find all the pieces. As you probably can tell - this takes time.

However - it is really simple to fix by defragmenting your hard drive.

• Double-click on My Computer
• Right-click on the hard drive you would like to defrag (i.e. C:)
• Select Properties
• Select the Tools tab
• Click on Defragment Now
• Make sure the correct hard drive is selected and click Defragment

Now get a cup of coffee and wait. It may take a while to defrag dependent of how fragmented your hard drive is, but once it's done, all your files on that drive is now put together at one place and your poor computer doesn't have to run around looking for all the pieces of each file anymore.

When a computer starts up, it also starts up several programs automatically. The truth is that you don't really need many of those programs and you can get rid of them to speed up your computer as it starts up.

• In windows goto START
• Select RUN
• Enter "msconfig" (without quotes) in the text box
• The select the Startup TAB
• Here you will see a list of all the programs windows is starting automatically.
• Uncheck the programs that you don't need to start automatically when windows start.

There you go. This simple step will speed up the start up time of windows.
