Spelling City - My Review

Ranked #6,468 in Education, #151,636 overall

I Was A Frustrated Homeschool Mom And Then I Found Spelling City ...

I am a natural speller. I just thought my four super smart sons would be as well. There is one, however, that takes after his dad. I was not prepared for the effort that would need to go into this subject. I had some success with some good curriculum, but they required a great deal of work. Then, last year, I found Spelling City.

Spelling City is a free (there is a premium version) online spelling program that can really help. Many school districts are now on board and you can use it with your current spelling curriculum or use the lists on the site. SpellingCity.com will test, pre-test, play games, use words in sentences, and also give you worksheets to use offline.

All my children took to this right away. They are going through the spelling lists at a much faster rate, without much interaction from me. My son who was having trouble spelling is doing well now and is even composing original sentences (his nemesis) online. Once tests or written work is complete you can create a pdf and save the work for your records.

"My spelling is Wobbly. It's good spelling but it Wobbles, and the letters get in the wrong places."

The most important thing to remember concerning spelling curriculum is to use a multi-sensory approach with children who are not natural spellers.

I agree with sandranelson1968, the Premium Membership is completely worth every penny. I can monitor my student’s progress, assign specific activities and they can use it for other subjects such as Math and Science.

We use Spelling Power too. And Spelling City is one of those back up plans for days that the words just don't stick.

Maureen, I'm a big fan of SpellingCity. I paid for their Premium Membership (only $25 per year) and the record-keeping is soooo worth it (there are also two premium games)
