The appearance of spider vein is more common among adult women than men and they can appear on the skin surface independently or they can also be associated with a varicose vein.
Spider Vein Causes and Symptoms
Spider veins usually appear in the following form:
- A group of small capillaries or vein that radiates outward from a certain point. They usually appear in a spider shape that is why it is called spider veins
- They can also appear like withered tree branches without leaves
- Some spider veins come in linear pattern such as thin separate lines
There are several causes of spider veins some of them are inherent while others are mere contributing factors. The usual causes are heredity and sudden hormonal changes, age, physical changes such as weight gain and pregnancy and also it can be the result of poor lifestyle such as the lack of physical activity, direct exposure to sunlight and exercise. Occupational factors that require individuals to stand or sit for prolonged periods can also contribute to the development of spider veins. Trauma and accidents are also some of the common causes of the blocking of small capillaries.
Spider Vein Treatment
There are different ways to treat spider veins. Some of the most common are the following:
- Sclerotherapy. This procedure is conducted in an office or clinic wherein a tiny needle is used to inject a solution to collapse the bulging spider veins. This approach will not only eliminate the unsightly appearance of visible and bulging veins, it will also eliminate the symptoms associated with the condition. The entire procedure only takes 5 to 30 minutes but you would be required to take a few more sessions, depending on the severity of the case, in order to get the best results. This procedure can be painful and the patient may feel cramps and burning sensation immediately after the session.
- Laser treatment. This type of spider veins treatment is conducted by directing an intense light to the target area removing the spider veins permanently. This particular treatment is offered when spider veins cannot be accessed by a needle. This also costs higher than sclerotheraphy.
