Hula Hooping

Hula hooping has evolved a lot since the 60s. It is now also known as hooping or spinning. Hoopers or spinners do not use the plastic thin hula hoops you remember as a child, nor are they the ones you find in your local retail story. These are heavy weight hula hoops that easily rotate with very little force.

These hula hoops are very easy to use. Because of the weight and the fact this makes them continue it with very little force. Because of the weight, it allows the user to dance with ease. It is enjoyed by many for either dancing or exercise.

Learn a little bit about hooping, perhaps it's your new favourite thing.

What is Hooping? What is Spinning?

This is the most beautiful art of dancing with a hula hoop. It involves the hooper, the music and the hula all working together to create a seamless dance experience.

Hoopers can be found all over the world. Usually, you will find hoopers meet up at various music festivals to share experiences, learn new hooping moves and put on a wonderful display of talent for the crowd.

Hoopers are friendly people who will welcome anyone to join in. Typically, hoopers will carry more than one hoop for either double spinning, or simply to allow others to join in the festivities.

Spinners or hoopers are generally associated with the jam music scene. Typical bands you would be able to see at these festivals include moe., Keller Williams, STS9 and many many more. Most notably, the band the String Cheese Incident. If you have ever been driving and seen a pedestrian sign with a hula hoop around the person, that is in honour of the String Cheese Incident or SCI.

When purchasing your hula hoop...

Make sure you buy hand crafted, weighted, hula hoops. The quality is ALWAYS superior.

Exercise Hoop

Hula hooping has been taken to the next level. There is no doubt that hula hooping is a good exercise, but there are now groups of people meeting weekly with an instructing and hula hooping for half an hour straight. This takes endurance!

Exercise hoops, spinning hoops or hula hoops, whatever you call them... they are healthy and fun for all ages. It's great to see that this hobby has now turned into a full time exercise regime. I feel kinda healthy!

Please tell me your story about spinning!

Oh dear ... I never got the hang of hooping. Of course, I haven't tried since I was a kid, and it was those lightweight ones ... can I blame it on the hoop? Maybe I should try again? 5***** for an entertaining and informative lens!

I was hula-hooper! And it wasn't in the 1960s either, we had hula hoops 10 years before that. How I miss that hula hoop now.
