Bear Medicine

When it comes to Native American Spirituality, the respect for everything in nature is great! Native American Spirituality see's medicine in all forms of life, the tree people, plant kingdom and animal kingdom; just to name a few.

The Great Bear holds strong healing medicine. Although bear has not came to me in a journey to announce it is part of my animal clan, I have always known it is with me because of the path I walk. If you have read my page: Animal Spirit Guides you will know that wolf is the animal that came to me in my search for my animal totem.

I have written several pages that I will list below about different animal totems. Bear Medicine is known for Awakening the Power of the Unconscious.

According to Ted Andrews Book "Animal Speak" The bear is a powerful symbol and image in both myth and lore. The bear has lunar symbology as well, giving it ties to the subconscious and even unconscious mind. It was an animal associated with the goddess Diana, a Goddess of the Moon.

Bear was very important to the Native American culture as they used the skins for protection from the cold. The bear has very strong medicine and magic and often are considered to be Shamans themselves. Bear resides on the west section of the medicine wheel which is also associated with water. Bears are known by Shamans as the "Keepers of Medicine" because they keep all of the ancient healing secrets from the Indians and spirits of Earth.

Bear teaches us to go deep within and awaken the true potential of who we are. It also teaches us to stay rooted in our faith and to enjoy the sweetness of life (because bears love honey). As you go within and awaken your true power and strength, you will find solutions to help you grow and nurture yourself from higher guidance.

As I mentioned earlier, Native Americans believe everything connects together, since bears love to climb trees they are often associated with trees. Trees are ancient powerful symbols just as the bear and both act as natural antennas that link Mother Earth to Heaven.

Ahh, nice overview of all kinds of bears. Who knew that a newborn panda weighs only 4 oz.?
My brother once had a photo taken of him while camping and (he didn't know it at the time) when he saw the photo his friend took, they both saw a bear close by in it. Yikes! That's my only 'bear story' - oh and Goldilocks, I suppose.

I have that book: Animal Speak. I have had it for over 15 years, I think. Great book for learning about animals. I am very attracted to and love, love, love giraffes right now. I have a giraffe pillow, pen, mousepad and more. It is my favorite animal for the last few years. I also love ladybugs. Cool lens! I am blessing it as I think it is very good.
