Most people will ahve heard of the different frequencies of brainwave activity associated with different states of consciousness from wide awake and excited to deep sleep, such as alpha, beta, and delta.

In order to experience the deep trance states of meditation, and other altered states of consciousness linked with spiritual activities, you must be able to learn how to drop down into the lower levels of brainwave activity at will. Some people find this very difficult, and hence have real trouble achieving any success with these practices.

That is where brainwave entrainment can help. It relies on a phenomenon called the 'binaural beat':

"The sensation of auditory binaural beats occurs when two coherent sounds of nearly similar frequencies are presented to each ear with stereo headphones or speakers. If the left ear is presented with a steady tone of 200Hz and the right ear a steady tone of 210Hz, these two tones combine in the brain. The brain integrates the two signals, producing a sensation of a third sound called the binaural beat. This 10Hz beat signal is formed entirely by the brain.In binaural harmonic technology the 200Hz and 210Hz frequencies are known as carried frequencies. The frequencies used are pure sine wave generated frequencies."

When a binaural beat of a particular frequency is produced in the brain it has a tendency to resonate with other brain functions in the way a tuning fork will resonate to a particular musical note, and this will serve over a fairly short period of time to bring the general frequency of brain activity in line with the frequency of the binaural beat. This means that through listening to an audio track designed to prodcue a particular frequency of binaural beat you can 'entrain' the brain an cause yourself to enter a particular meditative state of consciousness.

Bio-Feedback basically means a technology which monitors particular physiological functions, and then gives the user feedback about the changing state of these biological processes over a period of time. This feedback can then be used to help the person to gain a deeper understanding and greater control over the functioning of their own body. These basic principles have been well proven in medical trials and applications, and are used in the treatment of conditions such as Depression, Heart disease, Stroke, Immune, Eating problems, Diabetes,
Pain, Sex/Reproductive issues, Memory and many more.

The innovations of wild divine have now alowed this same technology to be used to help people to deepen relaxation into a trance state and to explore meditation. Healing Rhythms' biofeedback component measures a player's Skin Conductance Level (SCL) and Heart Rate Variability (HRV). SCL measures sweat gland activity. Increased perspiration indicates increased autonomic nervous system activation, which is associated with increased energy - both positive, like excitement, and negative, like nervousness.

HRV is calculated from the differences in heart rate from one heartbeat to another. No two intervals are exactly the same, and you need a method more sophisticated than just taking your pulse to determine it.
