Chakra or energy center is a term used in Pranic healing, an ancient Hindu system of energy healing. "Prana" means life energy. "Aura" is another terminology traced to Pranic healing. Aura is a non-physical body that consists of energy, which exists along with our physical body. The aura that covers our body is said to have seven layers pertaining to the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of an individual as manifested by energy. Studying the color and thickness of auras give ideas on the state of health of individuals. Six colors are associated with aura and interpreted into six personalities. These colors are all present in an individual but one or two are more pronounced.Colors(all shades of each color all useful in variance-lighter,less energy,darker,more energy)
Green - ambitious achiever,universal healing color.It balances all and brings to harmony.
Blue - spiritual peacemaker,cleansing,cooling .
White - unconventional chameleon,universal ,pure energy,most beneficial.
Red - activist,energizer,clears blockages,warms.Anemia and blood related disorders are treated with red.
Orange - creative communicator,freeing color,heals both physical and mental levels.Associated with the Sacral Chakra.
Violet - psychic,used almost exclusively for spiritually related disorders.

Tantra is popularly associated with the peculiar practice of sex and spirituality, it is another method of energy healing. It comes from the word "tan" which means to spread or expand. The concept of connectedness is a recurring theme in Tantric writings on sex and spirituality. As a method of healing, spirituality and sex figure prominently. It is presupposed that the union of man and woman can reach spiritual levels during orgasm, which removes the body and mind off collected impurities. These impurities being negative energies can in turn manifest as physical illnesses.

Unlike Pranic and Tantric healings, which have Hindu origins, Reiki originated from Japan. It is relatively younger than Pranic and Tantric healings having been rediscovered in the early 1900's. Reiki stands for universal energy, an energy brought forth by higher intelligence. Students of Reiki are taught how to tap this energy to heal physical, emotional, and mental illnesses.

Although Pranic, Tantra, and Reiki are all systems of energy healing, they differ in the type of energy tapped for healing: life energy, sexual energy, and universal energy respectively.

Reiki is a subtle and effective form of energy healing using spiritually guided life force energy.

A Reiki session can help ease tension and stress and can help support the body to facilitate healing on all levels - physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional. A session is pleasant and relaxing and is often utilized for one's personal wellness beyond any illness.

Pamela Miles is a Reiki Master who has helped introduce and implement Reiki programs in New York area hospitals. Within these hospitals, doctors, nurses and volunteers are being trained in Reiki and are publishing first-hand observed patient benefits, including dramatic effects on surgical recovery. In Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire, Reiki was made available wide-spread and program evaluations are showing that patients receiving Reiki need less pain medication and leave hospital sooner.

Reiki is both powerful and gentle. In its long history of use it has aided in healing virtually every known illness and injury including serious problems like: multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and cancer as well as skin problems, cuts, bruises, broken bones, headache, colds, flu, sore throat, sunburn, fatigue, insomnia, impotence, poor memory, lack of confidence, etc. It is always beneficial and works to improve the effectiveness of all other types of therapy.

Reiki has attracted the attention of the National Institutes of Health. Studies funded by the NIH are looking at the effect of energy work on joint disorders, wrist fractures, cardiovascular health, cancer, wound healing, neonatal stress, pain, and AIDS. Some studies have suggested positive effects on various orthopedic conditions, including fractures, arthritis and injuries to the muscle and connective tissue.

When the pollution in the air is unbearable and the meals you eat consist of junk food and empty calories, the body begins to rebel. Aches, pains and a multitude of illnesses begin to plague you as your body tries to fight back and reject those substances that you keep on ingesting. You begin the search for the medication that will help you get well again. You try pill after pill, procedure after procedure, but all are in vain since you do not really get any better and sometimes even worsen your condition.

Reiki is a simple relaxation or energy balancing technique. Doctors have been known to tell their patients that are receiving Reiki to continue sessions since they see the benefits of Reiki. Interestingly, there are many doctors that have taken Reiki classes as well.

Although based on Buddhist practices (Mikao Usui was a Tendai Buddhist), Reiki as used today has no specific connection with any religion, cult, dogma, or special belief system. It does not involve hypnosis or massage.

The concepts of the connectedness of mind, body, and spirit; the connection of individuals to all living and nonliving things around them and to the universe; and how energy impacts physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being are some of the salient similarities of these three healing methods.

Our auras are like magnets picking up vibrational energies that are floating around everywhere we go. It is important to cleanse our auras freeing them of foreign vibrations and negative energies. Here are a few simple ways to do it.Using your fingers as a comb, comb through the space surrounding your body from head to toe. Clean your hands with running water before and after doing this.

Stand under a waterfall or shower.Walking in the rainfall.Run freely and playfully in the wind.Using a single feather or feather whisk make sweeping motions through the space surrounding your body.Smudge the area surrounding your body with the smoke from sage, lavendar, and/or sweetgrass.Emerse and soak your body in an epsom salt bath.

Turkey or owl feathers are especially good feathers to use for sweeping the aura.Take care to do some deep breathing exercises while cleansing your aura to aid in flushing your inner body.Caution: Do not walk in the rain during an electrical storm.
