I love this lens and do read a few that I ddn't know before that you have hghligted. But many of the spiritual quotes and their respective authors I know for many years as I share your interst in spirituality. One thing I am doing is to take a wisdom I really like and visualize it in the context of a task or context or challange that I face, or my community face. For example, I have a lens titled "What is Ethics ?". it's a deep subject but my goal is to not only learn about "ethics' based on wisdom of "great minds" but also to see how it may be possible to strengthen "ethics" in society we live currently here in America. We want more ethics in society yet we know so little as to how to foster ethics . Comments ?

The root of all desires is the one desire: to come home, to be at peace. There may be a moment in life when our compensatory activities, the accumulation of money, learning and objects, leaves us feeling deeply apathetic. This can motivate us towards the search for our real nature beyond appearances. We may find ourselves asking, 'Why am I here? What is life? Who am I?' Sooner or later any intelligent person asks these questions. What you are looking for is what you already are, not what you will become. What you already are is the answer and the source of the question. In this lies its power of transformation. It is a present actual fact. Looking to become something is completely conceptual, merely an idea. The seeker will discover that he is what he seeks and that what he seeks is the source of the inquiry."

I'm really on your wavelength, Katinka, thanks so much for sharing! I just started my first lens last week and its on Osho quotes. Speaking of which, here's a great Osho: "Drop the idea of becoming someone, because you already are a masterpiece. You cannot be improved. You have only to come to it, to know it, to realize it. God has himself created you, you cannot be improved."

"Do good to those that despitefully use you". I like this quote, but I have a hard time doing it. I think the idea is not to let people abuse you or anything like that. It is more about not being vengeful or seeking revenge. It is the idea to "kill them with kindness". Thanks for all the great quotes above.

plz must read quote of hazrat ali(a.s) about spirituality.............."It is essential before you travel to know who will travel with you. If your travel companion is experienced and well-mannered you will enjoy his company and reach your destination safely. If he was the opposite of that, your trip will be hard and dangerous.

Likewise, your spiritual journey to Allah which takes a lifetime and is more important, requires careful choosing if your travel guide. In this case he is called master, teacher, guru, or shaikh. If he was an experienced and compassionate spiritual guide, you’ll safely reach spiritual perfection. Otherwise, you are in danger of losing the way and might end up in hell."

We may convert every house in the country into a charity asylum ..but the misery of man will still continue to exist until man’s character changes."

I was fascinated by your response that reads: "A roadmap can only help a person to the extent that they know where they want to go. Does the map determine the destination? " And this is my response to your response:

As relating to the destination, it is an inherent part of a roadmap. A roadmap must have a beginning, where you are now, and an end, where you want to be. A roadmap, if it is a good one, ensures that you find your destination. My point of reference is the gospel. It provides both the destination and a roadmap to find it. Still, I must say the quotes on your lens are great food for thought. Thanks.
  • benaidoo Jun 14, 2010 @ 5:21 pm | delete
The quotes are very uplifting and inspiring. After reading few of them you have the feeling to do something different to better your life. Changing your life though, requires a road map. I'm wondering whether you need the gospel, or any other sacred book to guide you to where you want to go; just to be sure that you don't end where you don't want to be.

Why Worry When You can Pray!!

There is only one Truth, One eternal life, through Jesus our Lord and saviour.

God is waiting to hear from you! He has a huge celebration planned to greet you!!

Is Life treating you bad, more troubles than you can handle? Confess your sins,Ask Jesus into your life, and He will give you salvation, hope, and Love to get through lifes hard struggles!

God Loves you more than you will ever know, and he has great plans for your life! all you have to do is call on his name, accept Jesus as your saviour, and your name will be written in the book of life. Then change youor ways, read the Bible, and find a good Christian Church.

I thank you Lord for all your blessings, and for Salvation through your son Jesus!!
May God bless all who read this and believe, and give you Peace, hope and Love!

Once when someone met with Ghandi he asked him, "Mr. Ghandi, though you quote the words of Christ often, why is that you appear to so adamantly reject becoming his follower?"

Ghandi replied, "Oh, I don't reject your Christ. I love your Christ. It's just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ."

My favorite quote: "Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit." I had to laugh. I find at different times, I have been the offended and the offender here. I hope I'm learning to be still and quiet. Your lenses always uplift me. 5*'s

I think I finally realized why I particularly enjoy your collections. I have yet to come across one where there isn't at least one quote that brings me to an absolute halt and gives me a little "life moment". Beautifully done.

I enjoyed the Myth of the Hero's Journey. All the knights except Parsifal ( and Galahad in the English version of the grail Legend) fail in their quest. There are many failures in one's quest but it is absolutely necessary to stay true to the quest. Perfection is not required but staying true to the quest is. 5*s

"The drawbridge is a hint about the nature of the Grail castle. It doesn't exist in physical reality. It is an inner reality, a vision, poetry, a mystical experience and it can not be found in any outer place. To search for it outwardly is to exhaust one's self and to court discouragement. Still, our devotion to outer things as the only reality is so strong that for most of us it requires an outer exploration or drama to fuel the inner search." - Robert A Johnson

Now I know where to come when I need to be inspired! One of my quotes, not being very inspirational, but very funny, is what I use when I am listening to someone who is complaining much about nothing, I usually reply "You've mistaken me for someone who actually cares" LOL Ok, so I don't say this outloud, just in my wee head. But how we would love to say this outloud sometimes eh? - Kathy

Namaste, Spirituality... thank you for your interest in my 'The new Oracle lens'. I wrote it a while ago, but reworked it :) I have heard of you before, through WhiteOak, perhaps. I Have had occasional brushes with the Theosophical Society's publications, and enjoy them very much. I grew up with books like that available to me... fortunately, because Nowadays I seem to have less time to read! I can see you've written much of interest... the problem for me is that it takes me precious download time whilst sifting through all the adverts etc... so I acn only visit briefly... very poor broadband service in remote areas like here.. all things good to you and your readers.

When you remember that Helen Keller was blind and deaf then her words are the more poignant. And they are the opening quote in a book that I keep by me as I work, so that I can note any down that I come across in all the research I do on the net. One of my favourites is Albert Ensteins: "Be the change you want to see in the world" - sometimes I take it too much to heart and need to remember to only try to change what I can change......

"For a long time it has seemed to me that life was about to begin; Real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be got through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." ~Father Albert D'Souza

Admit something: Everyone you see, you say to them, "Love me". Of course you do not do this out loud, otherwise someone would call the cops. Still, though, think about this, this great pull in us to connect.

Mother Teresa's Inspiration (Rumored to be On A Plaque By Her Bed)

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered; Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see in the final analysis. it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.

Here's one quote from Backdoor to Enlightenment

"Understanding unity helps to solve humanity's biggest challenges. There is no such think as an isolated problem. By injuring any part of the world's system, you injure yourself. There is no such thing as a win/lose situation. Think of life on this planet in terms of systems and not detached elements. Broaden your field of vision and assimilate the knowledge you have. See that the environment does not belong to any single country to exploit and then disregard. You cannot afford to think of your relationship with the earth as a one-night stand. There's no such thing as a free glass of milk. It's time to buy the cow." Za Rinpoche

One of my favorite spiritual quotes comes by way of a story. Two Landrovers almost collided at an African cross roads. One driver stuck his head out his window and shouted "Where are you going, for heavens sake?" Billy Graham stuck his head out of the other vehicle's window and smilingly called back "I go everywhere for Heavens sake."

  • spirituality May 15, 2008 @ 12:55 am | delete
We'll see - this lens has a lensrank of 102 at the moment - and competition is stiff. Most of the lenses that make the top 100 are technical or made for lensmasters - this one is different. It would be quite something if it did make it.

I'm not sure what 'google-ranked' means - but all the support you can give is welcome.
  • May 15, 2008 @ 12:14 am | delete

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these (Mark 12:30-31)

A great collection. All these great beings: Jesus, Buddha, Sri Krishna, Lao Tse, Gandhi etc, are talking about the same thing, just from different perspectives, and it's great that your lense reflects this. They would all get along really well, it would be great if their followers would also realise their common ground instead of focusing on their differences.
