Thoughts About Choosing a Spiritual Path
Healing the heart and mind is often a challenge. For those who have been wounded by traditional religion and the guilt associated with simply being human, it is often a long journey to find peace of mind. The journey is worth the effort though, at the other end is self-acceptance, a joy in living and a powerful spiritual connection with all life.
Many who have been overcome with religious dogma, need to take time to examine what is truly in their hearts and replace old judging symbols with new life-affirming symbols before they can make a free choice of Paths.
Your spiritual connection with the Divine is the most intimate personal relationship you will ever have.
No one knows what path best expresses your own unique connection with a Higher Power, not ministers, not priests, not psychics, not your family, not your soul-mate, and not me. Your life is a miracle for YOU to explore.
The many voices of the past that told me of a zealous and punishing God, have no power in my life today. They have been replaced with a deeper knowing. I am only surprised that some would choose to seek out a negative, judgemental deity to express their spiritual selves and their view of the world. Such fear-based religions do little to create a true sense of unconditional love and acceptance.
All religions contain grains of truth, all contain flaws. The Path you choose ought to be one which allows you to fully express your spiritual essence. One which honours and celebrates your values, ethics, beliefs and inner knowledge.
Whether you choose the Goddess Path, Buddhism, Christianity, Native American beliefs, Judaism, Islam, Atheism, Paganism, Hinduism, Shinto, Taoism, or another spiritual path is not nearly as important as the act of freely choosing.
All faiths work for some people. The trick is to find the Path that is right for you. Do not be discouraged or coerced into following anyone else's belief system. You have the right to choose your own way of spiritually expressing your connection with the Divine.

10 Ways To Open Your Spirit
Opening ourselves to diversity is a gift to the Universe.
It is just amazing how many different ways there are to be. No matter how open and accepting we are, it is human nature to "get stuck" in our own way of being. We forget just how differently those around us may see the world. The trick is to stay flexible and open to appreciating all of human culture. It's great fun to be a cultural explorer!
- Sit quietly and watch the clouds move for 30 minutes
- Listen to a different radio station everyday for a week
- Talk to an elderly person about the world of their youth
- Visit an ethnic grocery store you have never been to before
- Plant a tree or plant seeds in a pot and watch them grow
- Go dancing with friends and celebrate being alive
- Visit a temple, church, or spiritual center you know nothing about
- Be curious and open-minded about other's beliefs
- Practice conscious kindness every day, & dare to change who you are
- Really talk to kids, or rather let them talk to you about their lives

Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity & disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue & loneliness. Beyond wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees & the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours & aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery & broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
