Spiritual Tattoo Designs

I thought this would make an interesting lens because some people I have spoken too have told me that their tattoos have a Spiritual meaning, and others tell me their tattoos are symbolic of something in their life, a child, family relative, etc.

For me, Tattoos are very Spiritual representing who and what I believe. They are symbolic of my spiritual path, and I choose to get them in honor of my beliefs. That is why the biggest part of my tattoos are hidden. They are not to show off, but mean something very important to me.

Have you ever thought about designing your tattoo? Could you imagine having a piece of your own artwork tattooed on you, how symbolic would that be. Please share your thoughts with us in the guestbook. I know I really enjoy reading what you have to say, so come on and share.

Tribal Tattoos are some of the most beautiful tattoos I have seen. They are very spiritual and usually when they are placed on someone, the person has a certain spiritual connection to it.

Laughs..The first question I am always is asked is: How many tattoos do you have?

I have always had a strong connection with the number Three The Triple Goddess, The Trinity, the Triquetra (the symbol they use on the TV series Charmed) Mind-Body-Spirit, to give you a few examples. So most of my tattoos are something symbolic to the trinity. I currently have five and want a celtic dragonfly to be my 6th one, thus the 3 x 3.

I gave myself 2 tattoos that are now covered with something by a professional. I did that when I was in school, the ole fashion way with a bottle of indian ink and a needle with thread wrapped around it. It sounds like I am telling a tale but I'm really not. Some of the other students sort of gathered around me hiding my view from the teacher while I did my tattooing.

One was on my hand, today it has a black rose over it. I got the black rose during my gothick days because Black does not represent the same thing to me as it does to other people. I actually find a lot of beauty in Black. To me it represents the mystery of life, the mystery of the void and it represents Raven Medicine.

I see black as absorbing negativity. I have been told by many people it represents death to them. I suppose that is one way to view it, but where there is death, there is rebirth.

The Triquetra-Mind-Body and Spirit

The Triquetra

Mind-Body-Spirit

My Triquetra (try-KWET-ra) is on my lower back. The day I got mine, there was three of us in search of a good tattoo artist and we found them. Me and another one of my friends (spirit sister) got ours on our lower back and the third friend got hers on her upper arm.

The Triquetra just fits right in there with my beliefs. This symbol is very sacred to the celts and it represents the power of three-the triple goddess, Maiden-Mother-Crone. It also represents the Triple Moon the waxing, full and waning moons.

I believe that each symbol or tattoo we get, has special meanings to the one who has it.

Celtic Triskele

The Most Important Thing

when it comes to tattoos, you can add to the design. The above image is a Celtic Triskele which I have on one of my back shoulders. With my design, I added an Oak Leaf and an Acorn around it.

The person who gave me the tattoo, added the picture to his portfolio. It has some green coloring in the design because Green is a very powerful healing color.

They are all my favorite, but this one....

On my other back shoulder, I have a very special tattoo that was designed, and tattooed on by a dear friend of mine.

It is a triple moon with a hummingbird. It was a birthday gift to me a few years back. The hummingbird is a very sacred bird. They are very symbolic in my life. And they have manifested to me in times when I really needed them too and my friend knew this.

The triple moon, I have spoken a lot about that in several of my other lenses. The cycle of life for women is a very sacred journey that each woman goes through. In each stage of their life, they advance in their knowledge, beliefs and the way life is viewed.

Do you......................

The Most Important Thing

remember you can add to any design. My other tattoo is a Hawk Feather. I cannot tell you how many years it has been since I got this one, but it is in honor of my Hawk Medicine. I have a purple ribbon hanging from it in honor of the Goddess Color. The tattoo artist was not gentle in way, shape or form. It felt just like he was driving that needle gun into my skin and it was scraping the inside of my elbow. But he did a GREAT job on the feather! I will try and take a picture of that one.

Nice lens. If not for spiritual meaning, I'd probably have never bothered to get tattoos. I'm hoping to get another one soon.

great lens. I got my first tattoo this year. My best friend and I got matching celtic knotwork tattoos to celebrate fifteen years of friendship. It may not be considered spiritual in a traditional sense, but it is definately a symbol of something important and emotional. :)
