No. 1 - It's high in protein (it contains more protein than beef or eggs and is a complete protein) as well as containing many other nutrients like vitamins and minerals ie zinc, iron, copper, beta-carotene, Vitamin E and Vitamin B.
No. 2 - Due to Spirulina containing very little sugar or carbs and it being high in protein means Spirulina acts as a very effective appetite suppressant due to its many nutrients being so quickly absorbed by your body decreasing your hunger cravings which equates to spirulina being a natural source for weight loss without any side effects.
No 3 - Spirulina is well-known for its benefit in managing cholesterol levels both by lowering bad cholesterol and raising good cholesterol.
No.4 - It boosts energy due to the glycogen content that when Spirulina powder is dissolved into water it becomes very easy for the body to assimilate it giving you quick energy boost without any harmful side affects as it is a natural energy booster.

I personally prefer the powder as I don't like taking tablets of any kind and I quite enjoy drinking my Spirulina drinks. Plus Spirulina Powder assimilates in your body quicker than tablets do :)

When I started my research on Spirulina I was impressed with the benefits you get from using it. So I decided to give it a go and what I found was the increased energy it gave me and it suppressed my appetite. These 2 alone is a huge PLUS for me as I lacked energy and have been trying to lose weight easily and effortlessly without having to do the strict diet routine all the time which never worked for me. So I'm happy :)
Update: 7 February 2012. My 70's something mother has suffered from Chronic Bronchitis for the last 5 years now. What is Chronic bronchitis? It is a long-term condition; people have a cough that produces excessive mucus. Well this describes my mother to a tee. She has had mucas in her lungs and is always coughing it up and suffered constant bouts of coughing . She started taking Spirulina 2 weeks ago not for Bronchitis but for better health in lowering her high blood pressure. Well it came as a big surprise to her and to me that after taking Spirulina for a few days she stopped coughing up mucas (which she did regularly on a daily basis) and nor is she coughing any more. We are still monitoring this but this is the first time in 5 years that she has not coughed up mucas daily nor once has she had bouts of coughing especially worse during the night. She is over the moon about this.

Recommended Great Gadgets to Mix, Blend and Juice Your Spirulina
Some history on our beloved smoothies. It originated in the 1940s when cookbooks for the Waring Blender offered recipes for pineapple and banana smoothies. Yes some smoothies may be more healthier than others but even so smoothies are a lot more healthier than soft drinks (soda pop) or those horrible supermarket market brand fruit juice. The advantage to a smoothie is that it is filling and satisfying, so you tend to consume less. Great for those of us who are weight conscious.
So why not purchase yourself a blender or smoothie maker and enjoy a healthier diet for you and your children.

Please share you Spirulina recipes in this blog as I would love to know what you do to enjoy your Spirulina.
In the mornings I make my Spirulina drink using honey, lemon, chia seeds and water. I boil filtered water, add honey to it and stir. In another glass I add 1 teaspoon Spirulina and mix it with some filtered water until it's well mixed, then top it up with filtered water, add 1/2 freshly squeezed lemon juice, 2 teaspoons of chia seeds and add the honey mixture. I then let is stand for 10 minutes while the chia seeds gel. It's been a great way for me to start my day.
Midday I add 1 teaspoon of spirulina to blended fruit.
30 minutes before my evening meal I add 1 teaspoon of Spirulina to blended juice and am surprised how nowadays I can never finish my meal :) What a great way to loss weight always filling full instead of trying to starve yourself which never works as then you are tempted to binge and the cycle repeats - not a healthy choice at all.

Energizer Breakfast Smoothie Drink Recipe
Method: 1) Pour the freshly squeezed orange juice and yoghurt into your blender and process gently until well combined. 2) Add the free range eggs, bananas and Spirulina Powder and process until smooth. 3) Pour the mixture into glasses.
