Spirulina Recipe Ideas

Having recently watched a variety of inspiring food documentaries such as Foodmatters and Fork Over Knives, I thought it was time to seriously boost my diet and add a good amount of spirulina superfood to my food plan.

Spirulina can be taken directly with water (for maximum nutrient intake), mixed in with juices or smoothies, or sprinkled onto a variety of salads, dips and snacks.

This lens adds to my Spirulina Smoothie recipe lens, and focuses on ideas on how to include spirulina into your meals (opposite to drinking spirulina). Here is some quick & easy Spirulina recipe ideas.

Optimize your Health with Spirulina

Superfoods are a special category of foods which are superior in nutrients and anti-oxidants. Some of the Superfoods include Spirulina, wheat grass, barley grass, seaweeds, blueberries and broccoli.

Spirulina is an algae which is packed with nutrients, and obviously has a seaweed type of taste to it.

Spirulina Tofu Salad & Rice

You can add spirulina to almost any salad, but here is a few ideas:

Mix the following ingredients together and adjust to your liking:

  • 2 teaspoons spirulina

  • English spinach

  • Watercress

  • Firm tofu

  • Red capsicum

  • Red onion

  • tomatoes

  • Avocado

Sprinkle with sesame oil.

Spirulina Rice:

I love mixing spirulina into brown rice. Simply mix:

  • Spirulina

  • Brown rice

  • Sesame oil

  • Lima beans

Serve with red peppers and / or other vegetables on top.

Sprinkle directly onto a rice cake or add a bit of olive oil to go with it.

Spirulina Guacamole

You can easily add spirulina powder to a standard guacamole recipe.

Blend the following ingredients til smooth:

  • 2 teaspoons spirulina

  • 2 avocados

  • 1 clove garlic

  • 1/2 small red onion

  • 3 tomatoes

Add cayenne pepper and fresh lime juice to taste.
