Super Spirulina Smoothies

Want to make your smoothies even more healthy? Adding Spirulina powder to smoothies or juices is simple, and if you are having trouble with the smell or the natural seaweed taste, a spirulina smoothie will be much more gentle on the taste buds.

I sometimes find it hard to take spirulina directly with a glass of water, so adding spirulina powder to smoothies has made the nutrient intake a much more pleasant experience.

Here is some Spirulina Smoothie Ideas.

About Spirulina

Spirulina is a highly nutritious micro saltwater plant (also found in freshwater lakes) which was discovered in African and South American alkaline lakes. It's an algae which is incredibly rich in vegetable protein; about 3-4 times higher than fish or beef.

It contains a large amount of multi vitamins, beta carotene and a huge range of minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and with over 100 nutrients it's no wonder that spirulina is often referred to as Nature's Superfood.

Spirulina comes in tablet forms and powdered versions (some mixed with wheat grass, barley); which can be mixed in a glass of water or added to a fresh Smoothie or Juice.

I love the nutritional value of spirulina. But the taste leaves something to be desired. I am looking forward to trying it in a smoothie to see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion and the wonderful article.

I still could not get past the tastee of spirulina in my smoothies, but I just made this banana recipe and the cinnamon makes all the difference!! It provides the perfect sweet/spicy balance to mask the odd flavor. Will definitely keep pairing them in future smoothies.

I mix spirulina with barley green and have it every morning. The barley green tones down the strong smell of sprulina

I love spirulina, but only mixed into my smoothies! It is a bit extreme on it's own! Luckily I have heaps of it at the moment as I just returned from a trade show and got plenty of sample packets....LOL :-)

Great Lens and useful info - thanks for the divine sounding recipes. My son drinks Spirulina mixed with water after his 5 mile run - he says he feels totally refreshed and energized after drinking it.

I love spirulina but I have some problems blending it in juice. It doesn't seem to mix well when I do it. It just sort of floats on the top or attaches itself to the blender lol!
