Who is Spongebob Squarepants? Why is he so Cool?

Originally the character was to be named SpongeBoy but this name was already in use.[1] This was discovered after voice acting for the original seven minute pilot was recorded in 1997.

The Nickelodeon legal department discovered that the name was already in use for a mop product.

Upon finding this out, Hillenburg decided that the character's given name still had to contain "Sponge" so viewers would not mistake the character for a "Cheese Man." Hillenburg decided to use the name "SpongeBob." He chose "SquarePants" as a family name as it referred to the character's square shape and it had a "nice ring to it"

Main Characters

Sandy Cheeks is my favorite

SpongeBob SquarePants - the title character of the series. He is an optimistic and friendly sea sponge who works at the Krusty Krab, attends boating school, and hangs out with his friend Patrick, or spends time with Sandy, a squirrel

. Patrick Star - SpongeBob's best friend and neighbor, who is a starfish. He is known to not do anything, and usually gets SpongeBob mixed into his situations.

Squidward Tentacles - SpongeBob's neighbor and co-worker. SpongeBob and Patrick view Squidward as their friend, but he finds SpongeBob and Patrick to be very annoying, and usually dislikes the two. He also plays the clarinet (badly), and has a deep interest in the arts, believing that the other Bikini Bottom residents are uncultured.

Eugene H. Krabs - SpongeBob and Squidward's boss, a money-obsessed crab who is the owner and founder of the Krusty Krab.

Sandy Cheeks - A female squirrel from Texas. She is one of SpongeBob's friends.

Gary the Snail - SpongeBob's pet snail.

Sheldon J. Plankton - Mr. Krabs' rival who is the owner and founder of the Chum Bucket. He continually tries to steal the Krabby Patty formula but has never succeeded.

The First 100 Episodes is a absolutely great delight for the hard core Spongebob fan, as well as for anyone who has not yet neven seen any of the great Spongebob cartoons from all the way back to 1999. It is absolutely a real must have for anyone who enjoys delightful, classic cartoons. I absolutely recommend this as a great reminder of how loveable the sponge from Bikini Bottom has captured our hearts.

Patrick is an overweight pink sea star who lives under a rock

Patrick Star(born February 26, 1986) is a fictional character in the Nickelodeon animated television comedy SpongeBob SquarePants, voiced by Bill Fagerbakke. Patrick is an overweight pink sea star who lives under a rock and is SpongeBob's best friend. Like his best friend, he tends to be extremely gullible and clueless (even to SpongeBob's intentions), but remains a very loyal friend. While both annoyingly foolish and clueless, Patrick is shown to be far more dim-witted in terms of thought processing capacity, often failing to grasp the most basic of situations. At times, Patrick's stupidity is so potent that he suffers from lapses of memory (such as trying to eat a chocolate bar twice) and complete shutdown on any thought whatsoever. In an episode where he attempts to think up a song, it is shown that foul-smelling smoke leaks out of his head.

Relentlessly optimistic, drunk and defeated, man-child, sponge-man -- this movie has it all. Most of the parents in the audience didn't get it. But I've been an outspoken SpongeBob fan for years. Hell, I'll bet I like the television show even more than my children do -- and they like it a lot.

Eugene Harold Krabs

Eugene Harold Krabs, better known as simply Mr. Krabs (born November 30, 1942) is the owner and founder of the Krusty Krab, and SpongeBob's employer. Mr. Krabs' defining characteristic is his extreme greed and selfishness. He is extremely cheap, refusing to spend any money for the benefit or well being of anyone else, even his own daughter. On numerous occasions, he has been shown to resort to criminal tactics and labor abuse. He is voiced by Clancy Brown. In some episodes, he is even shown to have a villainous side.

Mr. Krabs' full name was first revealed in "Krusty Krab Training Video", and has been used semi-regularly since then. Prior to that, his name was simply "Mr. Krabs", and he was identified as such on several occasions where a full name would be used (Such as on his driver's license in "Sleepy Time").
