Writing sponsored posts

When you just started a blog, the easiest and fastest way to earn a decent income from it is by writing sponsored posts.

It is an effective way of short term monetization, but I wouldn't recommend you doing it if you are going to build a sizable audience as first priority.

But ironically, the bigger your blog gets, the more sponsors are willing to pay you big bucks to blog about their companies, their services and their products.

What's the benefit to Advertisers?

Why do advertisers want to pay bloggers to write about them?

There are so many ways to spend a company's marketing budget. As advertisers, there are several benefits when you are sponsoring bloggers to write about your products or services:

  1. Get a bunch of bloggers talking about your stuff at the same time.... Create a BUZZ
  2. Get a bunch of backlinks, which may help you rank higher for the keywords you are targeting in search engine result.
  3. Get reviews and feedbacks about your products - not only the bloggers give their opinions in the paid post, the readers of their blogs may give comments and feedback too.

Pros and Cons of Writing Paid Posts

As a blogger, I only write paid post when the advertisers are relevant to the topic I blog about, AND provided that they pay a good price for that. I would not recommend a blogger to blog extensively on paid post offers. There should be a balance between genuine posts and sponsored posts. Your audience is your ultimate supporters and customers. If you piss them off, there won't be many advertisers showing interest on your blog.

Pros:

  1. Lucrative monetary rewards
  2. The best short term monetization method

Cons:
  1. Google discounts your PageRank - this happens a while ago when Google simply reduces the PageRank of all the blogs registered with Pay Per Post and had published paid posts on their blogs.
  2. Active income - writing paid posts is like doing freelance job. At the end, when you stop working, you stop getting paid.
  3. Annoy your readers - too many paid post that is not relevant to your targeted audience will piss them off pretty soon

How to get sponsors for your blog post?

There are basically two methods to find blog post sponsors

1.via Advertising networks and marketplace - There are several companies act as a middleman. They find advertisers who would like bloggers to review and write about their products or services. As a result, they earn a commission through the process. As a publisher or blogger, you simply need to register and submit your blog to their network. Whenever opportunity arises, you can grab the offer and being paid to write about the advertisers.

2.Direct sponsor post - When your blog has a big crowd of audience, it will be easier to get paid post request directly from advertisers. The monetary rewards will be more lucrative too, since you've already cut out the middleman. This is an example of direct paid post I did - Money Matters Made Simple - The Thrifty Scot Review

How to Write a Great Paid Post

You would like to monetize your blog and earn money from the beginning. But in the long term, you would also want your blog audience to grow.

1. Be honest - don't tell anything that is not true, or you are not sure about the facts. You may please the advertisers for a while, but your readers will be pissed off when they found out the truth.

2. Exceed expectation - if advertisers require a 250 words paid post, you can write 500 words, giving them the extra juice. It they require only one link to their site, put up more links for them with different relevant keywords.

3. Write paid post that's relevant to your audience. If your blog is about some celebrity gossips, don't write a credit card paid post.
