Monsters, ghouls, ghosts, or things that go bump in the night can't hurt us when we celebrate with fun and games while these musical treats fill the air!

13 Spooky Fun Party Songs Playlist

Parental Advisory: Every song on this Playlist and on the videos shown below have been screened for Explicit Language. Some of the albums these songs are from may contain Explicit Language, and every effort has been made to give advanced warning, please heed it if this concerns you!

We start the party with a crowd favorite by Warren Zevon, before moving to a much newer group, Gram Rabbit.

Moving along, we hear many more familiar standards such as Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Bobby "Boris" Pickett and Michael Jackson with some lesser known favorites like the New York Dolls, Screaming Lord Sutch, and John Zacherley.

The set wraps up with my all-time favorite, a Halloween party can't be complete without this song by Oingo Boingo!

Besides the audio from the music player, you'll find related videos and links to where you can get copies of these great songs for yourself, so sit back, relax, and don't mind that Boogie Man lurking in the shadows, I'm sure he'll wait until you've heard all of these songs before HE GRABS YOU!

I Put A Spell On You - Screamin' Jay Hawkins

From "Cow Fingers & Mosquito Pie"

powered by Youtube

Cow Fingers & Mosquito Pie (CD)

by Screamin' Jay Hawkins

Screamin' Jay Hawkins is best known for leaping out of a coffin to begin his '50s stage show and for "I Put a Spell on You," an R&B plaint transformed into an excessive masterwork by (it's said) a case of wine that appeared at the session.

This definitive collection of Hawkins's work for the OKeh label includes the unedited version of "Spell" along with other one-of-a-kind effusions such as "Little Demon," "Yellow Coat," and his attacks on the likes of "You Made Me Love You," "Temptation," and "Take Me Back to My Boots and Saddle." Truly an artist who stands for something. --Rickey Wright

Zombie Dance - The Cramps

From "Songs The Lord Taught Us"
(1989 Digital Remaster)

Songs the Lord Taught Us (CD)

by The Cramps

The Cramps got away with their Z-movie, zombie-rock schtick because they were so intense in their conviction that it had more value than middlebrow humanist pop.

Descending on Memphis to cut their debut album with Big Star legend Alex Chilton, the band served up a thirteen-song punkabilly testament to drive-in anti-culture, replete with garage-band guitars and booming voodoo drums.

Versions of "Fever" "Strychnine," and the Johnny Burnette Trio's "Tear It Up" competed with Lux Interior-Poison Ivy originals like "T.V. Set" and "I Was a Teenage Werewolf." Songs the Lord Taught Us was also the first and last Cramps album to feature scary-looking guitarist Bryan Gregory. --Barney Hoskyns

Ghost Town (Extended Version) - The Specials

From "The Best of the Specials"

powered by Youtube

The Best of the Specials [IMPORT] (CD & DVD)

by the Specials

The Specials began a ska revival in Britain, putting ska and rock steady beats together with a level of energy and attitude taken from the punk movement. They also formed a more focused and informed political and social stance than their predecessors and peers.

The band was originally formed in Coventry, in 1977, as the Coventry Automatics and later the Special A.K.A. by Jerry Dammers (songwriter/keyboardist), with Terry Hall (vocals), Lynval Golding (guitar, vocals), Neville Staples (vocals, percussion), Roddy Radiation (guitar), Sir Horace Gentleman (bass), and John Bradbury (drums). Dammers started his own label, '2-Tone' on which the Specials albums and singles were released it was named for it's multiracial outlook and also after the two-tone suits worn by the rude-boys.

This CD/DVD 'Best Of' features all of the hits & videos from their first hit single 'Gangsters', 'Too Much Too Young' (a pro-contraception song which was banned by the BBC but still hit the no. 1 spot), 'Ghost Town' (released amid race-related unemployment riots), to the latter singles of 'Racist Friend' and 'Free Nelson Mandela'.

Jack The Ripper - Screaming Lord Sutch

From "Murder In The Graveyard"

powered by Youtube

Murder in the Graveyard (CD) [IMPORT]

by Screaming Lord Sutch

In the 1960s, before Alice Cooper, Screaming Lord Sutch, 3rd Earl of Harrow dressed as Jack The Ripper during his horror themed rock performances.

His most popular horror themed single, "Jack The Ripper" has been covered by many bands including the White Stripes.

Despite being produced by Jimmy Page, and having been written and recorded with notable musicians, Jeff Beck, John Bonham, Nicky Hopkins, Jimmy Page and Noel Redding, Lord Sutch's debut album was in a 1998 BBC poll as the worst album of all time.

For his second album, he secretly recorded a concert he performed with artists including Ritchie Blackmore, Matthew Fisher, Carlo Little, Keith Moon, Noel Redding and Nick Simper. The other artists didn't know about the recording until it was released.

Lord Sutch was the guy who shows up "All dressed up just like a Union Jack" in the song, "Get Off of My Cloud" by the Rolling Stones.

John Zacherley - Dinner With Drac

powered by Youtube

Halloween A Go-Go (CD)

Various Artists

Our first Halloween collection finds us probing the subconscious to confront our most persistent demons on Garage Rock's favorite holiday. We are visited by some of the usual cast of characters one would expect, Dracula, the Wolfman, Ghosts, Zombies, and Witches, but are far more horrified by that which cannot be touched, controlled, bargained with, or avoided. Our own dreams.

During the course of these proceedings you will find yourself dancing with the Devil, laughing in the face of the apocalypse, transported to the mystic forests of your deepest darkest secrets and insatiable lusts, and shocked by the helplessness of your own confessions of the sacred and the profane.

But afterward, if you live, one fact above all will remain clear. Now you will learn why you fear the night! - Little Steven Van Zandt

Dead Man's Party (CD)

by Oingo Boingo

Founded in the 1970's as "Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo" before shortening it, Oingo Boingo had their biggest success with their 1985 release, Dead Man's Party, which garnered them a cult following along with a guest appearance in the Rodney Dangerfield film Back to School and a bit of a hit with the theme song to John Hughes' teen comedy Weird Science.

Subsequent albums didn't do nearly as well, but front man Danny Elfman went on to become one of Hollywood's most in-demand composers, scoring the music for many films and TV shows including Beetlejuice, Big Top Pee Wee, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mars Attacks!, Men in Black, Sleepy Hollow, the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the main title theme for The Simpsons TV show.
