Spoonflower is an exciting new site - so new it's in secret beta - that provides print-on-demand fabrics.
When will it be public? Soon, I hope. Soon.

What "Beta Testing" Means 

Beta testing is the next step after alpha testing, which is done by the techs checking their own work.
Beta testing is done in a limited release that usually includes a short list of invited testers who are representative of the expected users.
The beta testers use their perspective to help the techs find glitches and make suggestions for improvement.

Spoonflower Fabric Design Specs (For Now) 

Image preparation details for Spoonflower P.O.D. Fabric

Condensed from Spoonflower's March 21, 2008 blog entry, How do I prepare a fabric design for printing?.
These image specifications could change before Spoonflower opens to the public.
  • Images should be 150 dpi resolution.
  • Images should be 8 bits/channel RGB mode.
  • Save image in LAB mode to prevent color shift.
  • Fabric image/design may be no more than 25 mb.
  • Upload image as uncompressed eps, jpg or tiff.
  • Fabric width is 44"/112cm, but the printable area is only about 42".
  • Fabric may be ordered as a Swatch (8"x8"), Fat Quarter (18"x22"), or in one or more yard lengths.

Software For Textile Design 

A good free vector design program I use is Inkscape.
