Great British Olympians
Setting the groundwork for 2012
Pulling in 47 medals raised Great Britain to 4th on the overall medal table, behind China, USA and Russia.
19 Golds, 13 Silver and 15 Bronze medals to celebrate tell some remarkable stories.
Claiming 3 of those Golds was cyclist Chris Hoy who put in tremendous performances in the velodrome. He became the first British sportsman to win 3 golds at one games for 100years.
In the pool, Rebecca Adlington is now being hailed the greatest British swimmer for 100 years after winning Gold in the women's 400m and 800m freestyle.
Olympic Gold Medal Battle
The battle to win Gold will be fierce at the 2008 Olympics.

RedSportNiac says:
The last Olympics China took 4 gold less than US which won the most medal. And now the Chinese are hosting the games so definitely they will win the most medals.

The host nation always does really well, and I'm sure China will be no exception. They were only 3 gold behind the USA at Athens, so I think they'll be hard to beat on home soil!

The Championship winners!
Scotsman, Andy Murray shrugged off injury and some of his rough-around-the-edges character to win new fans and put in an impressive performance.
Spain's Rafael Nadal earned his first Wimbledon finals victory in the Men's Singles, beating off Roger Federer in a real clash of the Titan's - the longest ever men's singles final lasting 4hours 48minutes!
Venus Williams took the Ladies' Singles crown after a battle with her sister Serena. It's the 5th time she's won at Wimbledon.

Spain Shrug-off Final Nerves!
Spain shook themselves free of the big finals curse that has blighted them for decades to lift the Euro 2008 cup, beating a distinctly poor German side 1-0.
For most of the match, Spain dominated and deserved to add to the tally in what was a fantastic night for the side who've brought this competition to life.
The Germans, led by Ballack, suffered from a weak defence and little vision for overcoming the strength and guile of the Spaniards.
A deserved win then, and possibly a signal of a major revival in Spanish footballing fortunes?
