Sporthunter 800

What I didn't realize with the Sporthunter 800 was that this didn't mean I was going to be shocking Buddy into oblivion and burning his neck. My dog is a 105 pound German Shepherd with a menacing bark, and he used to jump on people no matter what I did. I did need the adjustable level of stimulation because he has a thick mane of hair around his neck.

The amazing thing is we really didn't have to use the shock all that much. In the beginning, he needed to learn to associate the stimulation with our verbal commands, "Quiet" (for barking) and "Down" (for jumping on people). I didn't give him the credit he deserves-- dogs are smart. They will do what you want so as not to feel the little zap. Now all we do is use the tone setting and he behaves.

The best feature of this e-collar is that it works for problematic behaviors, and fast. We spent thousands on doggy classes, one on one classes, and behavior modification training. We could have saved money, and years of frustration by getting this collar three years ago.

We tried clicker training and the citronella sprayer collar- it was a joke. If you have a large, headstrong dog that you love, do him and yourself a favor and just get the Sporthunter 800 training collar.

This e-collar is waterproof, which we definitely needed. We live on a lake and Buddy loves to swim. That was an important feature to us.

We were even able to teach Buddy to come off leash with the remote trainer. It does work long distance. Before this, I'd be screaming my head off and he'd be running away like it was a game of chase. No fun first thing in the morning when you have to be out the door for work.

It's nice before you spend your hard earned money to know what other owners think of the product once they've owned and used it for a while. I already told you how much we love our Sporthunter 800.

There are over ten 4 and 5 star reviews for this product on Amazon. I am updating my review 9 months later to say this is still a good collar. We rarely if ever have to use the shock function at all, but it works and thankfully has held up to Buddy's love of jumping in lakes! Looking back now, this collar was one of the smartest things we did for Buddy. He is well behaved and we don't fret about him barking at little dogs or freaking out whenever the doorbell rings anymore. It has really made a huge difference in his behavior.

He's such a good boy, I wish we had bought this 2 years ago. It would have saved us a lot of grief-- and money! :)
