Sporting Dog Group
The Sporting Dog Group Lens contains the Sporting Dog Breeds.
The Sporting Breeds hunt in concert with a hunter and a gun. They help the hunter by extending his capabilities bringing back, locating, pointing or flushing birds for one example.
This lens will go over some of the dogs in this group.

Will a Sporting Dog make a good pet?
Yes Indeed!
I personally have five dogs. Four of which belong to the sporting group. I have two Brittany's and two Pointers. My previous Brittany Jack passed and so did Wally a Brittany.
Sporting Dogs are Alert, itelligent and active. Sporting dogs are still used as hunting companions today but their gentle natures and high level of trainability have earned them the reputation of being the best dogs for families. Because of these traits they are often recruited into the service sector. These positions include companions for the disabled or bomb and drug sniffers for law enforcement agencies.
Because they have that hunting instinct in them you may want to choose a dog who comes from a line of show dogs rather than hunting dogs unless you plan on using the dog for hunting. The dogs bred for hunting have a higher level of energy and will want to use that hunting instinct and may not be as focused as the dog who comes from show lineage.
Either way be careful. There are many backyard breeders out there. Because of backyard breeders dogs can have serious health issues. You want to make sure that you find a reputable breeder who knows what they are doing. Stay away from puppy mill dogs. If you are not a professional breeder please do not breed your animals. Leave it to the professionals.

Retrievers
Retrievers are the dogs in the sporting group that will bring back fallen game. They will return with it over land or through water.I have many dog items you might like on iOffer, check it out if you have the time
Spaniels
The movers and shakers
Spaniels stay close to the hunter, flushing game so the hunter can shoot it. Pointers and Setters
Motionless
Pointers and Setters freeze in mid-stride standing motionless and "point" to game. They are amazing to watch because once they assume a point they will stand without a movement until given a command. I love to watch the pointers work. Dogs in this group

Fencing for your Sporting Dog
Almost a must!
Having a fenced yard makes owning any dog much safer. But is nearly an essential with a sporting dog. Sporting dogs love to be outside to excercise. They are inclined to follow their nose and legs more than might be good for you and him/her. Many sporting dogs rarely understand traffic or roads and must be safeguarded from their own instinct to hunt when not in a suitable place to do so. Keeping your sporting dog inside a fence, kennel, or on a leash will protect them from becoming lost or injured when outdoors enjoying the open! Energy Levels - 0 to 5 with 5 being the highest
Sporting dogs for the most part are quite active and do need excercise. The larger of the breed are best suited to large yards or excersise on a daily basis.Five Level Dogs:

Excercise Requirements 0 to 5 with 5 being the highest
Again, this group of dogs for the most part if very active. I have compiled the energy level based on a 0 - 5 scale with 5 being the highest. With such high energy levels it is good for these dogs to be able to have room to excercise or they need to be walked for the most part. It is good to have yards for them and they are not best suited for apartment or condo living.Excercise Level 5
